My uncle James was one of the first 28 Navajo Code talker. His son graciously showed me all his memorabilia of his father. I was so humbled, I heard so many stories of their bravery and their experiences in the Pacific.

My grandpa also served in the Army in World War II, he would tell me a little bit of would he did in the army, he is Navajo, his life stories we're always interesting, I loved listening to him talk about his younger days, today I will always cherish his life stories in my heart and I'll never forget him, I miss him everyday. RIP.

From what little I know about the Navajo code talkers, they played a crucial part in world war two, but received little or no acknowledgement or respect either before or after the war was won. They are rarely, if at all, even mention or referred to in war movies. It is therefore somewhat gratifying to see this documentary putting things into a truish larger perspective.

Nicolas cage says" shoot the dam gun " to a Navajo who probably shot guns at a young age sheephearding to get a jack rabbit or cottontail to eat. That was B.S.

I never knew of the Navajo codes used by the U.S. Military in WE II. And they proved so effective, too. Why so much time to inform the general public about this great service to the country? Hollywood never even considered what the Navajos did. Navajos were not the only code talkers. There were other Native American tribes also. We have heard of the famous flag raising at Iwo Jim a. How many know that one of them was a Native American of the Pima tribe of Arizona. His name was Ira Hayes. After the war, he returned home a destitute and died in poverty. Unsung and unhonored.

I'm sure the general populace attitude that Navajo were non-achievers, lasted for decades after they returned home, since they were forbidden to speak of what they did for our military, until the military decided they weren't going to need to re-use the code again. But maybe after facing death, it matters a bit less what outsiders think of you. The capacity to keep the secret so long, is also remarkable.

They couldn’t say anything about the code when they finally made it home. For MANY years they went unnoticed and kept the code. Eventually they were finally recognized and appreciated by their people. Not so much by the nation they served, not that they expected it. They were Diné warriors, naataaniis, who made their families and relatives proud. Aho 🥲
