Well, there is Atlas, which let's you do a whole load of other stuff as well as sailing, combat and building ships. ;-)

@Michael Sharp - I am considering buying this game, but I did not like all of the negative comments that I read on Steam. I read that the game is developed in Ukraine and that the developers are very intolerant of the player community. Many players have complained of being banned from the NA forum because they voiced some displeasure with the game meta. I also read that the game is being taken over by Russian clans with overpowered ships who troll the seas looking for lone ships of small fleets. They then notify their clan who all log on to the particular server and "gank" the unsuspecting victims. I also read that these large clans blockade ports and extort currency and charge high prices for resources needed for crafting ships. Many said that is your ship flies the flag of a small country you simply cannot survive against the larger nations. The game that I am dissatisfied with right now is developed in an Eastern European country and their is definitely bias built into the game against other countries. It sounds like this may be the case with NA too. These are some of the things that I have read. Can you please tell me if they are true and whether I should invest time and money into this game?

Hello Brutus. You raise many valid concerns! Anyone who looks at the steam reviews and comments will see that there is a mixed reaction from the public to the game. I will say that the game has vastly improved since Beta in terms of game mechanics, and that no nation is given an "advantage" by the developers. More than anything, politics in the game that is generated by the playerbase itself actually influences the map more than that. There are people who grief others, but if you join a clan and are smart about it, you can avoid it. There is also a PvE server where you only fight ai - so that is a nice peaceful option in the game. The developers have said that they will be releasing a budget version of the game within the next year, so if you would like to wait it out for that it might be a good option for you. I think the game has a lot to offer, and if you'd like you could purchase the game and start out on the PvE server as I suggested as a lot of the game mechanics are the same, but you won't need to worry about elite players preying on new players. @@MichaelSharp667 - Thanks for the reply. We all buy a PvP game to play against humans and not bots. That said, if you play the PvE do you gain experience and resources meaning can you progress on the server? I had also thought that if I bought the game I would also buy the L'Hermione French Frigate. I read that DLCs reload every 24hrs so you don't lose the ship forever if it is sunk like you would one that you crafted.

@@brutusbarnabus8098 Nothing transfers over to the other server. Game is really really addicting though. Trust me dude pick it up for sale at 6 bucks and you will not regret a thing.
