yeah choosing that option in character creation is pretty much essential unless you are going to ignore navy completely.

how do look at my crews. I cannot figure it out.

double click on the ships icon in port.

for some reason my ships don't crew up the way yours do...my 30 gun shps only have 140 men...

all ship crew values have been changed since i made this video. it is the same for both the player and the AI so it doesnt make too much difference. if you are struggling to steal your very first ship then you can cheat/cheese it by engaging it in melee and then leaving the battle before you lose the melee. this will reduce the enemy ship by about 40%. you can then return to Portsmouth to recrew your ship whilst the enemy ship remains at 60% crew so you can then take it in melee without any trouble.

how do you get 210 on the Providence??? The most I get even leaving it in port is 140...

wait 1 turn before leaving the port. you may have to disband the militia stationed there to add them to the recruit pool. i dont remember if this was necessary or not as i always disbanded them anyway.
