Been onboard her a few times. If I remember correctly, the engines are electrically powered now to turn over so they can demonstrate to the visiting public what it was like for the engines to be working. The volunteers are a good bunch of people who take great care of her. Well done, a nice video. Hopefully the first ship in a Commonwealth tech tree or at least a premium ship to join HMAS Vampire (not HMS as is on the Vampire's life rings).

This is a very high quality and informative video. Really enjoyed it. As a former power station worker I had great sympathy for what the crew must have suffered. In the power station we also listened for changes in noise levels, and flickers on the lights. After leaving it took years for the adrenaline response to stop.

I may have been on this ship the last time it travelled under its own power. In 1967 with 2 officers(CMDR M W Hudson and myself) and a small number of crew, we steamed from Cerberus to Williamstown for some minor maintenance. Had a tug to escort us just in case, but outran it up the bay. I think we achieved design speed and the tug asked if she could have the engines! I wasn't on the return trip so maybe it was the second last time under power. The bridge had been stripped so navigation was by a magnetic compass on a makeshift wooden stand - the bridge was not enclosed at that time. Someone else has remarked that she was towed to the museum in 1974 and I doubt she required docking between 1967 and 1974.

not an impressive ship in terms of size, speed or arms. but thats ok. Its ships like these that were the workhorses of the war. Unlike the big capital ships like Yamato and Iowa that really just sat in the back not fighting. aside from fighting aircraft. Its the smaller boats that won the wats.
