The last level is God Tier... I've always been hesitant to use samples or chops of samples over existing samples/loops in a beat, for fear of them clashing. However, the way you did it makes a LOT of sense! Fantastic, Navie! I was starting to get in a slump of not feeling like cooking the last few days, and here you come trumpin' the slump! This has my juices flowing again, Thanks!
@MvnStn

Also, this vid helped me realize (to some extent, anyway) what my main problem is, which is my taste in samples! lol, I tend to pick very melodic samples with nice, beefy loopage, whereas you went with an almost abstract track and pieced together a future hit. I am going to implement this into my digging and see what happens! Thanks, again.

Here’s how to make an interesting sample flip: Use different parts of the sample at your choosing, wether it’s every bar, half bar, or quarter note. Do this a few times, maybe occasionally repeating the first quarter note of a bar of the sample, and replacing the second note with it, then continuing how the sample originally was. It gives it that cool MPC-feel. To get especially ineteresting, you can stack different parts of the sample on top of each other. If it clashes, lower the volume or you can eq it till it sounds good. There’s a lot you can do. Like eq or throw an interesting VST on part of the sample but keep the rest normal. It’s all just about what makes the sample cool different parts of the samples

Ahhh I see I see. Have you considered trying other sampling techniques?
@THA-REAPER
@THA-REAPER 2 жыл бұрын
I sampled plenty of times regarding the last tier. It's easy you just need to first use some math with time stretching/warping, understand what's in or out of tune, and use mixing effects to either separate or mesh frequencies together. Use the semitones to control the speed of the chop. I love how you made the thumbnail, because I always thought of it as in 3 layers. The icing on the cake is getting the plugins or synths on key.
@NavieD
@NavieD 2 жыл бұрын
It can be difficult when you're first starting out to wrap your end around all of these sampling concepts. While it may be easy to you my friend, it is probably less so for a newer producer
@THA-REAPER
@THA-REAPER 2 жыл бұрын
@@NavieD Yeah you're right. Honestly I've been at it for more than half my life lol. Getting things in tune was no walk in the park. My ears developed a lot more by not being 100% in the sample crowd or 100% in the synth or plugin crowd, but both then I started combining what I know. I always played with effects...from using too much to trying to use them minimal only if needed. These days it's a lot easier to learn I'm amazed and jealous how fast people can pick up now. I started a little before KZbin and when music software was a new questionable thing.

videos like these always minimize the power of madlib loops and half of griselda’s prod, he has great tips but it’s not worth comparing different types of sampling bc it’s mostly based on the sample ur working on anyway not every song can be chopped and not every song can be looped. not to mention his loop beat being ass makes it seem like it’s a worse style of prod when it’s got HITS in every decade of hip hop

The best comment and only 2 likes lol! Fucking the whole point is it’s taste. He starts with loop (beginner) and immediately says “I got this sample from someone else…”. Ok, then you already failed. The whole difference is your taste in music. If you can’t even be bothered to listen to good music and hear the loops in it then you will never even be at beginner level. Christ, the play head and the chop points even within a simple loop can be chosen any quarternote-well or poorly-and most of the great beats were just that. Not effects. Not fiddly techniques.
