Well done Tom. I remember Sparkes Boatyard there 40 years ago when I was about 10yo. My dad had a yacht up one of those creeks, sitting down on mud when the tide was out. Good to see the old place is flourishing. Now I'm getting into sailing I can't wait to come and have a look

Your knowledge combined with your easy style are an ideal combination for an instructor. 50 years ago, when I started and bought a 50' aft cabin cruiser, I knew I needed to take some instruction on my boat. Big Cat diesels and big wheels could cause big problems if I wasn't prepared. In all the years, I gather information, and planned what I was going to do and have plan B ready. Also pay attention to the wind and water movement. My boat is a relatively shallow draft with lots of house to catch the wind. It loves to drift down wind. Planning is crucial! I was an instructor with the US Power Squadron for years, but still try to learn more from your videos...and I do learn. Thanks for the instruction!

Hi Tom. Re: Pilot Books - very interesting. We berth at Cobb’s Quay, which Pilot Book would you recommend for Poole Harbour and the open water between, say, Portsmouth and Portland?

Looks a doddle with a 7m Rib, 2 pair of hands, an empty lock & little difference between marina & river levels, not so easy with a larger craft, single handed, low water entry & a lock with 3 or more boats in it & a stiff breeze running through. Sorry Tom I hoped to learn something from this video. Keep up the good work as I usually pick up good tips even at this late stage of my sailing life. From Tarka a frequent visitor to Hythe
