My wife often needs a ecv when we are at Disneyland because of a chronic leg problem where she can only go about a day walking before her leg basically gives out. The first time we did it, I joined her on my own ecv because I was having foot pain. It's fun to ride around in the scooter, but by the end of the day became extremely frustrating due to the restrictions that a scooter places on you, butt pain from being stuck in that seat all day, and a terrible sense that you were invisible all day long. You talk about how people couldn't see you at night, but I found people couldn't see me all day long. And it was hard not to feel judged (whether we were imagining it or not) when we would stand up from the scooter and walk into a line or a store. I got the sense that people thought, "if you can do that, why you using a scooter?" That experience has given me a lot of new empathy for those who have to use scooters every day, and now I try to give them a wide berth and not crowd them. I also try to give them a smile when I can.

100% agree with you. People have visible reasons and not visible reasons why they are on a scooter. There were times I felt like I was in a log jam and I couldn't move. My teens thought I was on easy street for not having to walk, but the ECV had its own unique challenges which were frustrating at times. While it was nice my feet never hurt, my butt did hurt. I always tried to get up and stand but then I felt like the ECV was just in the way of other park goers. I definitely felt some of the stares but since I had a full length brace on, I think I got a bit of a "pass" from people. I definitely have a lot of empathy for people on the ECVs now. It isn't always easy getting around. I apologize for not responding sooner, I am out of town this week and things have been a bit hectic.

Great video. I have Multiple Sclerosis so I often use a scooter to get around the parks to help stave off fatigue and muscle spasms from walking long distances. An added tip is to hit up the dollar store and grab a couple of glow sticks or glow necklaces to wear to help others see you. The lights on the scooter are not great and the glow sticks help a bit to add visibility.

Thank you and thank you for sharing this tip. Driving around on the scooter is incredibly difficult at times and anything to make you more visible helps out,.

Hi Jim and Crystal. This was very informative. It is nice to hear about your personal experience navigating the park and rides. I was not aware of how that process worked at Disneyland. Also nice to know there are many resources available for someone with a mobility challenge. ~Ali 🎀🏰💖

Great to hear that Disneyland were helpful before your trip and the CM’s were when you were there. I was surprised by how many rides you managed to get on with the bad knee. I can’t believe somebody crashed into you!!

I crashed into my own leg on a rail, thankfully my brace took the impact. There are quite a few attractions that have this and we are very thankful this is in place. Something I never gave thought to was the amount of leg room in the different attractions.

I was most worried about the battery. I wanted to make sure it would do a full day. After our first day, I no longer had range anxiety!

I took my own scooter and it died about a block from the hotel. 😂 I had help pushing me the last block thank goodness but i may look into renting one with longer range for my next visit

Oh my goodness! Thankfully some kind people helped you out and you made it back to the hotel. Running out of power was my biggest concern and the ECV I had from D&R mobility worked out perfectly.

Great information! This sounds like a hassle though. I guess it is the fair way… but sounds like a lot of “walking” around or waiting around….to get on a ride. That is just Disneyland though I guess? Sound like scooters need some glow sticks! 😂

Yes glow sticks or LED lights to stick out a bit more. I admit, it was a bit of a pain to go there with mobility issues. However, we always go for Christmas and I didn't want to break that tradition. One thing nice, because we had to take our time, we got to slow down a bit and enjoy some of the ambience. With teens we are normally going from one ride to the next. Thank you for watching!

I have used a mobility scooter at Disneyland in the past. I rented a scooter at the park. Did you use a Disney scooter or another one?

I rented from D&R Mobility on this trip. They will deliver the scooter to select hotels and you can leave it at the hotel on your check-out day.
