Gig economy? More like not enough traditional jobs.

No doubt that technology increases productivity and could reduce the number of traditional jobs. While the Gig Economy often means entry-level, low paying jobs, it could evolve into the Talent Economy. The skill and expertise of the Talent can command higher wages.

@@InspiredMoney gig economy mean you have to learn by yourself. No mentorship. No one telling you what the next progression. There is little progression. No safety nets. Either you are the best or you will be there forever. Like driving for Uber. So the next progression would be saving your money and buying a truck to get contract to do cargo. Or get a CDL and drive professionally. To me, gig economy is indefinite internship where no one tell you what skills you are learning to apply for career that can support you.

@@donnyvu4792 Yes, that’s totally true for commoditized jobs like driving for ride share. You can differentiate yourself with good service and water; but ultimately, it’s a race to the lowest price. It’s highly competitive because many people can drive. And the gig economy can include high skilled work like business strategy consulting or content marketing which can be much higher priced and reflect the consultant’s experience and skills.

@@InspiredMoney so the inequalities was and is growing and we are almost at the bottom. The google breakup is the catalyst for the coming growing pain of the common people. Just like Bell telecommunications back in the days. I think that is when employees lost their power against employers. So we are about to enter something we will not recognize.
