Braylee talking to the manikins is so interesting. I think I agree with Stacey that she is giving an accounting of them, like if we entered a room full of people and just want them to know that we are aware of them. I appreciated that you showed the way she was having difficulty transitioning from going out shopping and then returning home. Even if you can't really explain how she feels in a way that we can understand, the emotional pull was very obvious. I think the way that you handled it would be very helpful for other parents; just giving her the time, with no stress, and suggesting something she can do after she has made the transition, was great. No meltdown, that was awesome. BTW, the new clothes were super cute!

I'm autistic and I've always liked the mannequins, too. Especially when the ones at Old Navy used to have heads and look more like real people. To me, they were like big dolls. I wanted to play with them, talk to them, hold their hands. Dolls have always been my special interest, too. I've always thought of them as my friends.❤😊

Same here. My elementary had 6th grade, but graduating still threw me for a loop that I didn't adjust to until high school two years later. It's just a difficult period for most kids.

I’m autistic too and had the absolute worst time with transitions and still have a hard time. I used to just sob and I couldn’t explain why. It felt like something so impossible to do. Sometimes I still sit in the car for like 30 minutes after getting home just because it’s what I need then.

I'm autistic and I don't drive for this reason. The whole drive to me is a transition, so even though I'm fine at the driving task itself I found I spent my whole time in the car a nervous wreck then at the end of the day after doing the tasks on either side of the driving as well as the driving itself, I'd be exhausted ahaha. I'm far more calm and have far more energy if I can get a bus or walk and zone out for the journey 😅

I sometimes deal with transitions from something depending on what it is my mood can change and I definitely seek sensory input from it and it takes me time to self regulate then I feel better

Also, that looks like a sensory seeking behaviour Braylee is using with the car door to regulate herself during the transition! It's amazing the little tricks we will find to make things easier for ourselves 😊 and, what you were saying about you forgetting things in a transition, compared to Braylee's struggle with transitions was spot on! I have autism but far lower support needs than Braylee (i dont like to use the term 'higher functioning' because it doesnt allow for the spiky ability pattern in Autism) but I struggle more than you do, less than Braylee does, with transitions, it would seem. I will forget things in transitions and i CANNOT go back. Ive abandoned items i technically need, numerous times (house keys, water bottle, etc) cos i just cannot do the transition from inside to outside again 😅 its a whole change in temperature, vibe, level of noise and theres so many steps and so many things to think about and just no ahaha. Ive found routine so important. Down to WHERE i keep items i go out with every day, to make them right by the door so i can easily grab them en route out, having a set time i start getting ready, a set time i leave the house, but with extra time in there in case i do need longer or need to go back. I also have to do the same thing coming in again, particularly if ive been socialising a lot or have had a super productive work day, due to going from over stimulation to safe place base level of stimulation all at once is a lot for me. The best way i could put it is it feels like im riding on this huge wave of energy and it doesnt just go like neurotypical peoples seems to, it has to be given time to ease off and sometimes i have to help it along with sensory items, calming techniques etc

Hi! I will explain! Me and myparents think i could have autism and im gonna get tested soon for it, but i do struggle with trwnsitioning aswell, just not as much as braylee does. Well one thing for me is the change in the vibe, the emotions the place its different, like going from house to my dance practise bothers me because in the house im not dancing, so im not used to it and at the point im at the house I dont fit the mood to dance so i dont want to transition to that place or do that thing , im not sure either because as mu defealut thinking, this is my defealut thinking and i dont know how it is like to not have problems with transition, just like as you dont know what is it like to have problems without transition. So honestly one thing that helps me with transitioning is doing step by step transitioning slowly and taking my time. Like gwtting ready first, then wait and pack the bag and then go so i also suspect i could have adhd so i also try to go very early and going a little early helps me with getting used to the place aswell. If im going to my cousins house to eat for excample i need to stay there 30 mins before eating to get used there, its not a big of a deal if i just go and eat without waitting it just kills the mood like the vibe , for me it is just like a moodkiller just like when you are out of your favorite snack. I hope this comment helped, one reason why im glad i am not as serve as other people on the spectrum is so i can talk and explain to others because i think i excperience these myshelf. Sure its not a huge reason but if i was more serve i wouldnt have to worry about many matters, so its not necessarily bad to have it serve dont worry. Also im a fan! I would definitely be froends with Braylee if i was not in a different country. Again sorry if this is too long

Hi Stacey and David, I have commented on this several times but I haven't heard anything back, and I would really love to know your guys feelings on the following subject. First of all I really appreciate and love the way you allow Braylee to just be herself and you do not try to make her mask. I think I told you there's this young lady on KZbin who her whole life she was always having to learn to mask. And now that she's grown up she says it was a terrible feeling of being fake and not being able to be herself. But it was done so she would be more neurotypical acting in behaviors. I wonder what do you guys think about either schools or special schools for autistic kids that want them to mask. You know the proper way to say hello is.....,... look in someone's eyes and say, hello how are you today? Personally to me I think it's a bunch of crap because it's not real. So in a sense a child is being made to mask and act in ways that typical people act but they're not being true to themselves. And I think after watching you guys for so many years the way you have brought up Braylee is so cool. So one of my questions has always been how do you guys feel about ABA therapy? And what type of school does Braylee go to? If she's in public school does she get like a shadow or teacher's assistant that hangs out with her? How does that work, can you please explain that to me I've always wanted to know and there's a lot of controversy with ABA and I want to know how you feel about it. Thank you so much for uploading tonight I was hoping you guys would. Okay back to the video.
