Nuno Ribeiro, that is one way to look at it and to some extent your right, but really a lot of the motivation for recording contours for me is the selfish reason of having accurate charts for an area that I fish or boat. You don’t have to chart everywhere you go, so if you just chart the areas you want then it really is advantageous to you to do it. As for paying an “outdated chart”. If your like 90% of anglers and mainly fish the same water, once you chart and update your area you’ll always have accurate charts even after your subscription expires. Granted it will get more accurate and detailed as others contribute sonar logs, but your charts will never degrade. The biggest advantage of resubscribing in my opinion is the features like shallow water shading, contour shading etc. Just my 2 cents.

Gurne Blansten, again you can look at it that way but I don’t. The truth of the matter is very few anglers are capable of studying charts and picking out “holes”. Locals usually know about them anyway so making my charts more accurate so I can stay on or pinpoint the key structural piece that holds fish is to my advantage. I fish enough to know you can give another angler locations and techniques and they still won’t replicate your success. Accurate charts are no substitute for experience, they only supplement it. I choose to keep my charts updated and accurate to avoid hazards on the water and to maximize my fishing time.

Great App, just one question: - my depth sounder has an offset to show the amount of water under the keel, not the real depth from the waterline. Do I have to change the offset or there is a setup to be done on the Navionics APP? - And what about the tides? where I am there is a 3 meter (9Feet) difference between High and Low tide..... Thanks in advance for all your effort and time

When you start the sonarchart live you can add a second offset to reflect the real depth.

I am a big lowrance/simrad fan but humminbird still does it better and easer with Autochart right in their units. Wish lowrance hand the same

Lowrance does now have SonarChart built in to the new OS. Autochart has an advantage if you wish to keep your data private, but there is absolutely no comparison with simplicity and the outcome comparing Humminbird autochart to Navionics SonarChart. The way Navionics "meshes" the incoming data with existing data makes it a far superior product in my opinion. It is also substantially easier to use.

Question for you, Bay: if you use a Lowrance product and SonarChart, does that mapped data have to be turned over to become public data? If so that's no good for me as a fisherman since I want to use SonarChart to map small to mid-sized lakes that don't have good maps or any maps at all. I don't want that kind of information becoming public since it would draw more fisherman to those areas. I don't want other fisherman (or a company) getting that information from my labors.

Where are you getting the gps signal from? Does the ipad require data turned on? Looks like a great set up.
@bayofquintecharters6760
@bayofquintecharters6760 7 жыл бұрын
The GPS signal comes from your tablet or phone, the depth is from your chartplotter. No your ipad does not need data turned on. Your ipad will have a gps receiver and a cellular receiver (wifi only ipads do not have a built in gps reciever and you would need an external gps receiver) they work independantly meaning you can have no data or sim card for your ipad and the GPS portion will still work perfectly.

Great video! Do you know what's the cheapest sonar for sonar chart??
@TrevorBStokes
@TrevorBStokes 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's the cheapest, but this is what I have. Very old Stowe Dataline "databox" with a depth sounder. A smart wireless NMEA server from Digital Yacht. Stowe's NMEA sentences are non-standard with no checksum, so I have a microprocessor in between with code that I wrote that fixes them. Talking to Navionics support I eventually found out the DBK is not accepted. Only DBT (depth below transducer) or DPT. I transposed DBK to DBT. If these conditions are not met, Navionics silently does not connect. I won't be on the water again until the spring. All of the above was done on the bench. But I can turn on SonarChart Live now. I can adjust the DBK offset in the Stowe databox so that it actually delivers depth below water surface.

How is the depth below transducer data calibrated to account for the depth of the transducer?

Thanks for fast answer. I downloaded the Navionics Boating app and it offers 15days trial. But after that, what do I have to buy in order to be able to live-map on my iPad? Can I run logs for IG at the same time?
@scottwalcott527
@scottwalcott527 7 жыл бұрын
Asys11 all you need to buy is the Navionics app subscription. I think it is around $20/yr. As long as you have a wifi connection on your chart plotter the rest is free. If you have a Lowrance unit with built in wifi and the new OS just released you can actually do sonarchart live right on your chart plotter. There are some really cool features with the new OS for Lowrance. It does require a freshest data subscription on your Navionics card. Hope that makes sense.

I heard that you only need active sub if you aim to do live logging on your chart plotter with the Navionics, but not when using the app on iOS for example, but that isn't correct? so that you could log IG and watch live-mapping on the iPad at the same time just to see the lake buildup, and then upload to IG to get more details for example. Thinking about buying the Ti7 but trying to clear some things up first.

About the upload of Sonarlogs in Navico format, unfortunately, Navico has taken the business decision not to allow Navionics to process any sonar logs exported directly from the Navico units. Therefore, any files uploaded to our system will be systematically rejected for processing. For this reason, we suggest users that want to contribute to the improvement of our Sonar Charts to connect our mobile Boating app (that can be installed for free) to the plotter and to use the share data option. In that way, not only is it possible to generate a SonarChart Live on the mobile device as well, but at the same time the app will record a separate (unprocessed) sonar log file that will then be uploaded automatically to our server for processing. At the moment if you have a Navionics MObile App on your phone you can connect it to your plotter Wi-Fi. After connecting the Mobile APp to the plotter you can draw the SonarCHartsLIve directly into the MObile APp and record Sonarlogs directly into the App. These SOnarlogs will be uploaded authomatically on our server when the Mobile App will be back on internet from the plotter connection.

Why doesn't Navico make the mobile app free for registered users with valid and current subscriptions on fish finders? They charge us money for annual subscription on the fish finder and also on mobile app. It just sounds like double dipping. We are providing free map updates to your company while you charge us just to use the apps that is required to send the data in. This is a horrible business decision that is not in the customer's interest. The fact that you turn off features once a subscription expires on the fish finder is another bad business decision. I highly suggest to many of my friends not to buy Navionics maps for that reason. Your business model is to lock us into a continuous revenue stream and providing you with free map updates. Give me a break.

OK THATS ALL GOOD SO WHAT YOUR SAYING IS THAT AFTER BUYING A NEW 12 INCH EVO3 AND A NEW NAVIONICS CARD ALL REGISTERED AND UPDATED THAT I NOW HAVE TO PURCHASE A MOBILE APP AS WELL ? WHY CANT I JUST DO ALL THIS ON MY EVO 3?
@scottwalcott2130
@scottwalcott2130 6 жыл бұрын
You should be able to do it all on your EVO 3. I had older technology and had to do it through the app. Now it can be done right on your unit and you’ll have it immediately.
