I know that they’re poor and life obviously is hard, BUT, is it really neccessary to drop plastic and litter all around the place? Can’t they clean up a bit? Here in the west we sort our waste in which type it is. Hard plastic, plastic bags etc. It’s actually worth some money.

During Marcos's era, the grandparents of these people lived in apartments or bungalows which were provided by the Marcos government at an affordable price because Marcos had created a lot of high-paying jobs for everyone. Even a road-sweeper could take his children to go on a holiday to Australia. Each child had an education fund which saw them to university. Those who were not academically inclined learned skills such as cooking, dress-making, repair and hairdressing. The Philippines is a country rich in natural resources and due to Marcos's effective planning, meat, eggs and milk were not luxury items. All Filipino women, including those who worked as office cleaners, owned at least 10 pairs of shoes and ten handbags. American brands loved the Philippines because the Filipinos were the largest customer group in the whole of South East Asia.

ive been here the same month this video was recorded or a month before. I got there bcz it was out summer break we went there to spend some time with my cousins, they weren't living bad at all, they were the only few ones with an actual house in the area. They were a bit farther from where this video was actually filmed, so they were kinda on the better side of the SLUMS. Still in the slums.This place was an eye opener, changing my whole perspective on life. Made me realize how lucky i actually am. I played on that exact court shown on 0:59, I loved how everybody was still smiling having fun despite their challenges and difficulties in life. Seeing children work, collecting bottles and pick up trash made my heart burn. Seeing people my age (im 15) struggle made me actually appreciate what i have and it just made me thankful for all the opportunities that was given to me.We live in manila and i thought our area was already bad, this place was just sad. Whats more sad is how the government is not doing anything about it, ik it aint that easy but atleast try. Although they were living in these crazy conditions (houses sinking, houses made out of tarpolines and cardboard) they still manage to have fun, and thats a blessing it self.
