I would have gone to LA to see that. I kept wanting to see it in San Francisco back in the 90s, when it first came out.

My brother and I used to see this thing out off the coast of San Diego quite a bit back in the 90's when we were out fishing offshore. We always wanted to put our antenna and outriggers down and try to drive underneath it (head on). It probably would have been close, and we probably would have got in a lot of trouble (if not killed), but it would have been a great story to tell.

Great video; from about 2001 i believe. that is why you see CRT's. But, it was under computer control when built in 1985; ahead of its time back then

I saw it docked and covered in camo netting in San Diego when I went on a tour of the SSN 724 Louisville in March of 1993.

I read about this somewhere, I think it has a new form of electromagnetic propulsion, that is why they call it a test ship.

This is the one Lockheed design that didn't make it into production that I would have most like to see. I can't understand why they didn't add communication and survallance gear to the Sea Shadow and make it into a floating command center. I think this was the most magnifican of many great achievement in the Skunk Works since the A-12 and SR-71 Blackbirds!

@Freesoler01: That would be a great Idea, a AWACS on Sea. It's way smaller than a Carrier, and... it's Stealth.

• Catamaran design, it’s likely not to be very maneuverable. It seams quite a small boat looking at the frigate fore of it. Are there guns? Weapons? It looks like it will catch the waves a bit in heavy weather and may be unstable laterally. Looks like a catamaran version of the CSS Virginia. The hull surfaces look like they may have some drag. What is it role? Pretty old equipment in the Bridge. Is this a mock up, its got a civil yacht radar?

@Bubo25 Haven't you ever heard of a proof of concept? It wasn't made to be a warship. It was made as a test bed to prove the feasibility of stealth technology on the water.

@future2060 Well they weren't exactly racing. Besides that, it's intended for stealth primarily. But a quick run at Wikipedia says it goes up to 28 knots/52kmph/32mph. And it's kindof hard to believe it was built in 1985, too.

@jericoparazo i think that if world war 3 begins usa will use everything that they have. and Those museums i think could come to active duty if needed. Let say to build new ship it takes ages, but to run it also is not very cheap :D so they build and docked. Well 1 Iowa class ship is still on active duty with all new tech guns, so if it costs too much to be on active duty it could be museum for some time :)

@jeffcwj stealth and secret don't necessarily mean the same thing. Its definitely not a secret, but it can still be "stealthy", revealing it to the general public doesn't take away its stealth capability.

the ship the Navy was looking for. the one where it can spend $365million to build it for a purpose known to us all as nothing at all (literly, it was built with no purpose, thye didnt want it to do anything), and then throw it away at the flick of a dime. and a monsterous budget cut.

David Coll just found out! Tomorrow Never Dies! I can't remember a single thing of that movie... I can just remember that first part when they send the "torpedo" on a ship, then (SPOILER!) they kill the crew and I can remember the main villain (that old man that I think has glasses). Nothing more.. I can't even remind myself of the actor that did Bond or of the Bondgirl...

You ask for budget cuts but leer and jibe when they do with the basic necessities people really are always stupider than you think. It's a stealth test bed it doesn't need anything inside as far as where concerned it's ram and shape is really all they are testing.

@visu052 america isnt in such a bad situation as europe or russia are. china is doing pretty OK, but is totally dependable on US and europe markets. so, if US or europe will suffer major downfall then china (+ other III world asian countries) will follow them. that is the main reason china is desperatley purchasing american and european bonds right now.
