Navy Filofax Pocket Malden Unboxing: How does it compare? Size, Feature and Quality Comparison

Are you curious about Maldens? In this video, I'm unboxing my new navy pocket size Filofax Malden, but as I go, I'll get into stuff like how they age, how their features differ across the sizes, and how consistent the leather quality is. I just found this video on my explore page so I may be super late haha but for cleaning that spot try using saddle soap and a horse hair brush! I’ve been restoring a few vintage coach bags recently and it works like magic 👌

Hi! From California, USA. I have bought all the Maldens from Filofax USA and all of them do not measure up like the Ochre Brown. I have pocket size on all colors and the texture looks like used or old looking. The personal colors are a bit better on texture. The A5 are beautiful in texture. Many people have called Filofax telling them this problem of texture but Filofax is turning a blind eye by saying just return and will give you another one. Guess what, they all look the same. I have done the same. I have kept them and moved on. Their quality in processing are lacking and we pay the big price for that. Hopefully they can listen and pay attention to their customers.

Friday night of the bank holiday weekend and another one of your videos to look forward to! I bought the navy Malden in personal size after Christmas as I already had one in Ochre and Kingfisher blue. The leather on all three does seem to vary and I have read on the Filofax FB page that the leather on older versions seems to be better quality, but like any company that sells lots of units, there will be some that slip through quality control. I was a little disappointed with mine initially as the lining material made a noise that sounded like it was made from a crisp packet! That noise is has now gone and I now really love it. As for the colour, the navy is the same colour shade as the navy Kaweco fountain pen or the navy Pom Pom clips from your shop.

Thank you so much for this video! I am currently thinking about getting a new Filofax planner, and I've been in doubt whether to get a Malden pocket or Malden mini, and also, randomly, if it should be in black or navy. Its been surprisingly hard to find a good comparison video, but you did a great job, so thank you so much, it was very explanatory but not too detailed so that it would get boring. My decision has been made a lot easier, so thank you ^-^ ♡.

I may have just done a little happy dance! I have the navy mini and personal and struggling to find dashboards etc I like, I’ll be stalking your Etsy shop as I love the others I have from you....interestingly, my older maldens (4yrs old ish) are really smooth, the newer ones are more “crinkly”

Thanks for your video, I watched it last month and it helped inform my Malden personal size purchase. Tried the ochre (mustard/yellow undertones), and navy, the latter was so much nicer. The. I was gifted the ochre 🤣. I’ve enjoyed making many accessories for it and guess where I just got loads of accessories from!! Looking forward to “Sorting Stuff Out”.

So interesting, thank you!!! I have A5’s, the stone I “re-homed” because mine came in with very smooth leather and that along with the light color caused me great fear to keep free from marks and stains so when I saw the navy I was wondering how bright it was. After seeing your video (with excellent lighting variations!) I am now very confident it’s perfect! I loved hearing the differences in sizes and leathers, too, I learned a lot:) Also, big fan of your shop😉💕

Love Filofax & blue is my favorite color. Been watching for a sale to buy this Malden. TFS. Wish they would start adding RFID since so many of us them as wallets.

Oooh how I feel your struggle and it IS truly heart breaking! My personal kingfisher, my pocket ochre and my (2nd) replacement pocket Navy. ALL three of them feel different. I'm actually about to send my Navy back AGAIN, because this one feels like hard cheap material...plastic like. The first Navy outer pocket was wonky. I don't know how to describe but the outer pocket had a major gap and it drove me nuts! My Ochre is sooo squishy and yummy. My kingfisher feels good, too. Not as nice as my Ochre but... My heart is breaking because I WANT THE NAVY but im beginning to think it's not meant for me to have.

Gave up on Maldens in the end. I love the look of them (and that navy with contrast stitching is gorgeous!) but for me they are too soft, and as you've found and shown it's very much luck of the draw what you get with the leather. I eventually tried a Classic in A5 - and was amazed to really like it (the 🇬🇧 design - of course!). I'd always had very rigid A5s before, and also really didn't like Personal size til I tried a Classic cover. Who knew? 🤷‍♀️

I bought a Malden a few months ago. The leather seemed to be much stiffer than earlier ones I've seen. Good value though. Great thumbnails by the way.

I would think it all depends on the leather they use at the time as no two leathers are the same........ but I do like them aging but I have gone to the Kikki-K's due to the size of the rings, but have loved the filo fax when I was younger

I’ve seen on Philofaxy you can look at the code under the closure strap, inside at the back. There are number that say where it was made and when. I’m intrigued to know if there is some way of knowing which leather etc was used as it does vary. I’ve a Malden navy personal and struggle to find nice dividers etc to match.

I wonder, if you remove the inserts first, can you remove the ring protector without cutting it?

I bought one very recently in the pear colour (it was reduced on the filofax website)…. I am very interested to see if i get the same experience as you’ve had with your stone ones. Do you think it may have anything to do with the dye on the leather or the quality on the leather used? i bought some of your felted clips and journal cards to go inside (the pink and green works really well)

The structure of the leather is individual. You do not know how it will be when you buy online new and packed. I like that. The used style may be wanted. It is called antiqued Leather. However the leather is strucrured, I prefer it from pu or plastic. I will sell all my planners that are not real leather. The touch of it, the smell, the aging is unbeatable.
