Very informative video. My nephew starts Marine Pilot flight school in Pensacola in a few weeks. Looking forward to visiting him later this year.

5:04: At the end of primary flight training in the T-6 Texan II, student naval aviators are given their numerical grade for the training they have completed. A higher grade means that the student qualifies for more aviation platforms. For example, only the highest grades qualify for strike (i.e., jets). Once the grade is received, the student will prepare a list of preferences for intermediate/advanced flight training. For example, the student may list strike as #1, then helos as #2, and so on. The military branch in which the student serves will then assign the student to intermediate/advanced flight training, taking into account the needs of the service and the student's preferences.

I can’t comment if this video is accurate, but I can tell you how I earned my wings in 86. After graduating from college, I attended AOCS, Aviation Officer Candidate School, in Pensacola for 14 weeks. After successfully completing that, November of 84, I earned a commission as an Ensign in the USNR and started primary flight school, VT-3 at NAS Whiting Field. I soloed, and completed primary about four months later, then started intermediate in the T-2 Buckeye in around May of 85, then my wings in May of 86.

thank you for this video. Very informative. I am currently studying for the ASTB and have hopes of becoming a Naval Aviator. There is a lot of information out there but it's overwhelming and can be confusing and this video explains it well. I have a better idea on what to expect. Thank you, God bless

Remember as much as 50% is spent in the landing pattern. Emphasis is on being ready to go to the carrier. And you can’t be over 6’2” tall (ejection seat limits for the Goshawk)

Why are there pix of aircraft from other services and countries??
@billydunn.1603 ай бұрын
The us military trains pilots from other countries as well. I remember some Saudi Arabia pilots going thru flight training with in the Navy backed in the early 90s

This info is really spot on. Like the NIFE info is completely accurate. Are you a flight student?

What flight training is in Jackson MS.......?

This video is CAP... a lie... NAI (Naval Air/Aviation Indoc) 1. NAI (or API ...aviation preflight indoc I went through it) depending what commissioning program you went through.. NA(Naval Academy) NROTC, and qualified OCS (Officer Candidate School) graduates ( as well as other programs Marine PLC AIR, NAVCAD, etc..) its an 8 week course, and the needs of the navy comes in... If the needs of the navy states fixed wing pilots are wanted (usually no more than 3 or 4) then based on your ACADEMIC STANDING/PHYSICAL STANDING) you're blessed to the T-34(old skool / my era)/ or T-6 training wing.... ( I have never heard a Cessna 172 in the training syllabus or training wing) You went from T-34... T-2 (Guppy) and T/A-4's( old skool) / T-45's (my era) then to a tactical fighter jet or attack aircraft/carrier based planes (F-14's F/A-18's , A-6's, EA- 6's, AV-8 B's, S-3's E-2-C's &F's, F-35 B&C's and the COD's)) (depending what pipeline you qualed for.. Or NFO pipeline) Or you could end up flying Helo trainers, or maritime trainers (Pilot or NFO) and if you're Marine Aviation... Then its FAC(forward air control training in Quantico at the Basic School) before you hop into a jet!! DO NOT LET this VIDEO.. sell you!! its CAP!!!! ( a lie) ....All again.. it matters on your ACADEMIC STADNING, PHYSICAL STANDING... AND NEEDS OF THE NAVY ( THE FLEET) AND CAN YOU PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!! ( LANDING ON A DECK OF A MOVING CARRIER, OR GETTING A RADIO CALL TO STAY AT "MARSHALL 2K BECAUSE OF A FOULED DECK" ... fuel state 5.2!!!! Not everyone makes getting the "WINGS OF GOLD"!!! It could be Academic? Medically? Military bearing/leadership? or once again..... NEEDS OF THE NAVY/MARINE COPRS..... But once you got those wings....... ITS FOR LIFE!!!

Currently in NIFE (almost finished) awaiting primary, and this video is actually very accurate. You have no idea what the beginning pipeline is like anymore, altho most of what you said is accurate.

Is the f35c also an option for the Marines?
@BaselineUS8 ай бұрын
The Marines currently have 2 F35c squadrons. We aren't sure if it is an option for aviators straight out of flight school or if it is primarily experienced pilots making the switch.
