Look, if you have NEVER been on a year DEPLOYMENT, ALL ALONE, then DON'T COMMENT...... Because you have NO CLUE how tough those moments away from your family and loved ones TRULY are. Missing Christmas, Birthdays, Special Events, etc, and then you think we're OVERPAID or get to retire too EARLY??? Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME??? Just the mental stress we endure most civilians would collapse just thinking about. So respect these families and shed a tear for the ones still overseas, ALONE!!! Try NOT hugging your loved ones for one year, and you STILL will NOT understand because you're NOT 15,0000 miles away from them.... God bless all of you that have endured this, and that are enduring it. May you return safe and in one piece. Semper Fi, Captain T, Ret. U.S.M.C.

Amen, Capt. During OIF-1 I missed being around for my mom's twin brother and mother passing away, three friends' funerals, two family weddings, my best friend getting married, the birth of my niece, and my closest cousin graduating from college. We left shortly before Valentine's Day and got home in late January. It was the worst year of my life and I only had my brothers beside me to help me keep myself going. It's bad enough just missing holidays and the opportunities visit family and friends on long weekends or leave, but being absent for all those events, good and bad on top of it, while having to compartmentalize your emotions to keep yourself focused on getting through the next time outside the wire... not too mention trying to process those who fell beside you on mission... it's hell. I don't care what branch or MOS someone has, being deployed thousands of miles from home and everything familiar to you is just tough. Lead the Way, SGT H, 82nd Airborne.

@@MickeyKraut419 You said it well my brother. We all in this country need to understand the Soldier 🪖 🪖 family. CAUSE really the whole of a soldiers (man/woman) is deployed. Everything you stated is a REALNESS NO CAN UNDERSTAND LEST THEY ARE A SOLDIER 🪖 FAMILY. MY HATS OFF TO ALL FOUR BRANCHES OF MILITARY. FAMILIES OF SOLDIERS AND MOST OF ALL WHAT THEY MUST ENSURE TO PROTECT A COUNTRY SUCH AS OURS. GOD BLESS ALL SOLDIERS AND THEIR FAMILY/ LOVE ONES. JESUS BE THE GUIDE ALWAYS.

@@aaronjones3284 Thanks fam. I just saw your comment in my notifications and watched this again. Crazy thing about this video, one of my childhood best friends was a PO1 in the Navy at that time, and was an Aviation Electrician running one of the maintenance shifts assigned to the Abe Lincoln during that time. Small world, lol. Nik is up for SPO this year, and is on track to retire in 2025 with 22 years in. I got out after 9 years in back in 2010 but Nik has stayed in and been crushing it. He has only been on stateside duty assignments for 7 of his 19 years in the Navy so far. Like me, he has missed birthdays, funerals and weddings. He missed both of his younger siblings graduating high school and college. His missed his mom and stepdad's wedding. Our careers cost us both relationships and friendships, it cost him a marriage, we've both lost brothers and sisters on deployment, and far too many more that lost their war within after they came home over the years. I talk to him as often as his schedule allows. He has been my best friend for close to 30 years now. I just picked up a bottle of Glenlivet 21 that was casked the year I went in and Aberlour 30 that was put into casks the year we met, and the day he retires we're having a BBQ with his motley crew of AEs, then we're off with our families and friends for a fish fry and campout at his dad's property in the Allegheny mountains, cracking these very nice, very expensive bottles of scotch, smoking a few nice cigars, and celebrating the fact that somehow we both made it through alive to start our journey as business partners living the best we can for all those who are no longer here to do it with us.

Will say that all that you expressed in your message about your plans, that you and your best friend have when he gets out in 2025, may the Great Creator be involved in all. May He protect both of you'll families, plans and all which you both plan too excute together as BEST' FRIENDS/ BROTHERS. THANKS ALSO, TO THE BOTH OF YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE IN THE MILITARY MY BROTHER.
