Anything remotely resembling the "old Navy", disappeared 7 March, 1994. The day women reported aboard combatant vessels in the Navy. Since then, it's been a steady diet of "EEO" training, non-stop. Do an "old" Shellback ceremony as a CO, or CMC, and your career ends. Anything REMOTELY considered hazing, your career ends. Anything "triggering", and your career ends. The military is one big "corporate" mess. That's the reality.

I was on the west coast, took a contingent of young female enlisted sailors for a week long test at sea. Complete s**t show. Felt bad for the small boys on the pier around us when the integration order rolled downhill. Jumped through their butts to create female berthing and head zones, on a tiny Frigate, before any shipyard reconfiguration was done. "Make it work, and we don't want to hear about any of your problems. Suck it up". First time I happened to be out on the pier at knock off, all the boys and girls came off the small boys, walking down the pier laughing, giggling, holding hands; it was like end of the day at Jr. High School, but in dungarees. Felt the hand of First Lady Hillary Clinton. A palpable G.I. Jane political vibe going on at the time, and good old Bill Clinton clearly didn't get the memo. LOL. He managed to keep his job and finish out his tour in the White House, while the Navy kept feeding warm bodies into the experiment like a human meat grinder. Very Pavlovian training method. Dangle a bone in front of a dog and then smack him if he tries to take it. "The beatings will continue until morale improves", came to mind. I started taking type 3 orders overseas to avoid the whole scene at sea. Punched out as soon as I had my 20 in. Dodged a bullet.

Be advised support for the Flash Player stops December 2020. So you are going to have hurry up to get your binge watching on. I had to go into Google settings to enable Flash Player. Open Chrome, from the Customize and Control Google Chrome menu (three dots in upper right corner or browser window) Select Settings Select Privacy and Security Select Site Settings Select Flash Move the slider next to "Block sites from running Flash (recommended)" to Ask first (this will add the website you are using to the Allowed list) Chrome will now allow you to click on the player to run the Flash content: Followed by this pop-up: (You will see the example when settings reading all this) Click Allow and Chrome will run the Flash content. Honestly from this old salty dog they live the same life enlisted do with a tad bigger racks unless your a dept head they have their own full size bed fold out that turns into a couch. But the O1-O4 have racks with a few more inches than enlisted. Their food is better because the wardroom cooks for less than the enlisted main galley.
@GrowMasterGeneral
@GrowMasterGeneral 2 жыл бұрын
@@jameslong2006 I don't know what Navy you were in, but Officers' lives were vastly different than Enlisted lives. Officers get paid quite a bit more. An Ensign makes about as much as a Chief. On the ship, they get staterooms. And if they're 0-4 or above, they usually get a stateroom to themselves. Only junior officers had to share. And even then, it was like 4 max per room. Going on liberty, they always got off the boat first, had no curfew, and didn't have to have a liberty buddy. There weren't any Chiefs lined up as they got off the boat looking them up and down to make sure their civilian clothes weren't frayed or "inappropriate". I mean, do I need to keep going? I could write a book. I served on the Nimitz from 04-08 (yes, I'm actually in this documentary) and I couldn't help but feel like a black person in pre-civil rights era. That place was toxic. All the racism, sexism, etc. Officers lived a decent life. They had something resembling a normal job. Enlisted lived like abject slaves. All the working parties, cranking in the galley, getting treated like shit. It felt like a prison sentence with hard labor.

@@GrowMasterGeneral The old saying is true. It's not for everyone. My experience as an E4 and below nobody was 1987-1990 on forward deployed carrier out of Yokosuka. Tend to remember all the cool adventures in Yoko/Tokyo chasing JN girls around the block, and love hotels. Get underway (a lot), and have a blast in the Barrio in P.I., Pusan, Singapore, Sheilas calling the Dial-a-Sailor phone in Australia to order up a Sailor like a pizza from Dominoes. The first time I walked out onto the catwalk at dawn, at anchor, and there was Africa right in front of me. Africa! First time we steamed through the San Bernadino Strait in the Philippines, seeing the smoke from small villages and hooches was like a looking glass back to the Stone Age. How many Americans would see or do the stuff I was about to experience, before I was old enough to shave; but still did because you had to. Sure. The at sea periods were long. Some were really long. Like 2 beer days, and a couple times just a few days shy of the 3rd. On a ship older than my parents, smashed nut to butt in a funky smelling berthing with little to no a/c. 12-16 hour work days on the flight deck rain or shine, ground hog days out in the NAG playing peek-a-boo with the Soviets or Iranians while on water hours, running out of vegetables and milk, so you live on canned ravioli, sliders and beans until the next unrep ship or Mrs. Piggy was in range - and maybe get some mail too. A few close calls, learning about the ever-present reality of death when you're a bullet proof teenager. Getting crabs during a miserable yard period, mess cranking, duty days, the first drunken bar fight, lying to each other as to why we were at Medical the first day out of Subic, and how Doc grinned as he pulled out that extra long Q-tip...... LOL. All that stuff is a blur now, but was an important part of changing from a teenage boy to a man. Builds character and an excellent work ethic, if you let it. Shut your pie hole, suck it up and git 'er done. Last but not least, as I retired from active duty in 2007, was reminded how good I'd had it compared to all those who came before, and at the time, being a Soldier or Marine in the suck, many of whom faced the daily/hourly potential of waking up dead in Iraq, or on some forgotten mountain in Afghanistan. Mess Cranking? Pffffttt! All day. No sweat. 😎

I am tired of WOMEN in the armed forces being in the forefront ..Anyone who complains about my comment, just doesn't understand what the government is doing to us all!! Protection and security is a mans duty, and womans role is to be the cornerstone of the family unit ! I was in the navy during VN, and I NEVER received respect for it by any woman for 30 years. Men have been mutilated killed, and terrorized in keeping our country free (until recently) ! I don't see 90% of woman respecting this FACT ! God help us if women were given a replacement role in the service. It's bad enough that the government wants to replace the armed forces with illegal aliens (no English), they also want to make us all subservient to them ! The armed service has a tremendously vital role in preserving our freedom. The democrats (NWO) want us gone! This reminds me of the academy cadets forced to wear high heels a few years ago ' which was an insult to ALL veterans !
