Dropped some truth bombs on this kid lol. I did Army OCS in 2006-2007. It’s almost exactly a year long process from the day I shipped for Basic Training until I was heading to my first unit. But I didn’t do any follow on schools like Airborne, Ranger, etc. Add on another 4- 6 months or so if you do all that as I’m an Armor Officer. It’ll take longer if you have any restarts, with the most likely being Ranger School, a fair amount don’t get it in one go. They’ll be a phase re-start or a day zero restart, etc. We had a couple of Infantry officers that promoted to 1LT before they reached their first duty station. That put them under a very tight clock to get their PL time in and be ready for their next step which for most is the career course. You can go to 75th as a Senior 1LT/Junior Captain but you have to be a stud in your Brigade as you need need an O6/COL recommendation to go try out for Rangers. SF has recruiters at every Army installation and they’re always looking for dudes. To get in that pipeline is a little easier but, that’s a very long and tough journey. But like Jake said, there’s not many dudes ready to roll from civilian life straight into the Operator life unless you grew up living like Daniel Boone or Davy Crocket or maybe you were big into scouts and made it to Eagle Scout and did a lot camping. But especially these days that population is small. Most need that initial 2-3 years of military training and life before they’re even close to ready. Because at selection they aren’t teaching you how to do anything. It’s task, purpose, objective, safety brief and go!

As a forner arrny recruiter he will have to take the asvab and he must score 50 or higher on the QT portion of the test, he must have 4 of the lines scores of the asvab above 110, Including the GT score, he must pass the physicial which is conducted at 0500, He will have to do an officer packet. DO not let the recruiters convince him to go enlisted and try to sell that he can go officer later. The recruiters are going to do their best to try to get him to go enlisted because we can get him in basic training with in 2 weeks which means they make their mission. DO NOT go that route. be one hundred percent adement about getting an OCS packet. AR 601-210 chap 9-10 explains the officer programs. Any officer no matter what branch of the army they are in whether its a supply officer, infantry officer, artillery officer, logistics officer, medical officer can apply to go a ranger battalion or even SF, they just have to meet the criteria. if they want to get the best hands on experience to being successful would be to go infantry, cavalry scout, combat engineer, learn hands on training such as patroling, reaction to contact, bounding and traveling over watch, Target reference points. call for fire. set up an ambush and linear ambush. mounted and dismount procedures . Understand how to setup a fire team and squad team from a temporary fix position. Understand SALT which the enemies size activity location and the time of contact. radio procedures, how to patrol under NVGs. understand sectors of fire, learn all weapons. and learn warning orders, op orders and fragos. zodiac boat procedures, and much more. Hey Jake, I was an infantry airborne qualified soldier that also went aviaiion and then military intelligence and I also did drill sergeant duty and recruiting duty so if you want to reach to me on the Army side to help these guys out on army questions please let me know.

Don’t quote me but I think there is a 18x program in the army that allows you to join sf right away
@jakezweig2 жыл бұрын
Yes there is
@daviec29052 жыл бұрын
Right away means you go though basic infantry training (17 weeks), airborne school (3 weeks), and then to SF selection. By then most people are sick of the torture and want some normality in their life.

Google the fool shit... Hahha funny line. killing me. Great advice for Young Man. Young Man needs to slow down as Jake is suggesting. Infantry life is the good life so you do not get your "brain crushed". Hahha "brain crushed". Hahhaha. Dude you know what the infantry does? Stop being a Math Dude. Love the sounds in the background as Math Dude is getting some knowledge. Jake.. hahah thanks for this partner!

@@jakezweig hahhaa Math Dude! That is a kind name. Jake coaches with understanding context. That is a mighty gift... I studied the many approaches to coaching at Columbia University. You are top dog! Any org would benefit from you! You know, but I am just affirming it.

@@jakezweig I praise Jake for all of his wisdom. Where am I coming from? One of my best friends is Rudy Reyes, from Generation Kill, one of the best Recon Marines to serve. Like Jake, there is no quit in me. I am from elite schools but can Bang (Yale, Columbia, Harvard), went to the Home of ROTC Norwich, Iraq War Vet (Army TAC Civil Affairs) and Marine ANGLICO back in 87. I was two time Florida State Olympic lifting champ, for all of you Cross Fit disciples! I also was sole finisher at marathon distance at the NYC Barefoot Race (over 26 miles all on pavement Governor's Island back in 2010 for my son, no shoes)! Like Jake, I do not play... Was commissioned Coast Guard in the 90s... And did National Guard. And retired from fed gov and led in the first congressionally outpatient war trauma program in the VA system... I did it all as a Yellow Man with Afro Latino and indigenous in me. Listen to Jake! If I had his program I would be even greater. The key is to get great mentorship. Jake has it. Get some with Jake.... Btw I am not jockriding not seeking any financial gain. I have published articles and have written two plays and produced over 50 podcasts at warfighter radio network. When I was on the air, I wish I knew Jake...I would have asked him to be a guest on my show. He is the realest dude!
