A 12 gage barrel brush works great to clean the upper receiver

It certainly does...

So the patch probably looked fairly clean because after that many rounds, the fouling just gets turned into baked on carbon. Super hard to get out, you need one of the chemical cleaners formulated to lift it off and probably would take application and removal over several days.

Chrome lined bores do not get that dirty. The chamber and locking lugs and back do. I clean the chamber every time I shoot.

every time I clean my gun, from the method which you use in this video my round grouping at the range on paper is always off and I have to re-adjust My optic sites almost every time it seems..I follow your instructions and procedures to the tee exactly as shown in your video I clean it exactly like you do every time I almost always have to readjust my optics … mybe I should put it. In an standard gun holder stand before hand so while cleaning I’m not putting pressure on my optics and barrel, when banging it to get any debris out while banging my rifle unevenly on my table top my optics and barrel are hitting the table on a stand it would protect those parts to keep everything aligned…and ready to go I aways clean my gun at the range before I go and take one five round grouping to insure if necessary I’m sure my rifle is in ready status before I put it away if needed in an emergency situation..she’s ready to go .. and every time I buy a new gun, i lube it with Lucas Oil High Mileage Oil Stabilizer 32 oz. car piston, oil then I clean it right after and I never get part wearing ,look and shoot’s like a brand new gun but broken in.. Lucas is a great product for cars and guns because it puts No wearing on moving parts and never breaks down. I don’t know why more people don’t use it 😮 it’s cheap and lasts forever.. they do sell a gun product as well but it’s like a grease…

So, just to be clear this method of oiling is recommended to our students during a high intensity training course where there will be several hundred rounds fired. For routine cleaning, we would recommend a different method as an FYI.

I used to believe that you should clean a gun every time its shot, or fairly frequently. It's just not true.

Far from it and we punished rifles back in the day. While developing our rifle with LWRC we torture tested our prototype rifle in excess of 35k rounds with serious cleaning. When they requested we send it back at about 15k they had to wipe some of the junk off to inspect, but they gave it back as is and we pretty much stopped counting after 35k. Still have that upper😉

Yep. If that amount of banging knocks your optic off zero, you need a better optic.

@@TridentConcepts I see that. I am OCD when it comes to gun cleaning. If I fire a gun once or a thousand times it gets clean the same. I actually picked up a ar12 today.. and I cleaned it thoroughly. I can't help it. 🤷🇺🇸
