I feel the same way. I was born in 2000 and grew up seeing mostly Glocks in movies, tv shows, on law enforcement, in video games, mentioned in songs, and seeing everyone at the range primarily shooting Glocks. I guess it is my generation's version of the Beretta 92, Sig P226, and 1911s (also revolvers) that many people fell in love with based on what they saw back in the day. Because of this, I'm a little bias towards Glocks. The simplistic design and look is so iconic that I've always found it attractive.

I’m a boomer. And I love my 1911. I was a Glock naysayer for many years. My primary argument was the trigger. I shot one at a range once in the 90s and hated the trigger. Then I read an article in early 2000s about the 1911. The author was a boomer and well respected gun author as well. His comments were essentially that this (like me) who eschewed the Glock because of the trigger had forgotten how dreadful Government model 1911 triggers were. And that the colt 70s and gold cups had taken years to develop and address the problems. So I revisited the Glock and have come to really like it. Good stuff!

The only thing I’ve changed was the factory sights and an Overwatch Precision trigger. I like that they use factory Glock trigger bars and the main reason I swapped was I did not like the face of the factory shoe. Other than that, you hit every nail right in the head as to why I chose Glock as my carry weapon. Have both 43X and Gen5 19 and have never had any issues with either one of them. The only malfunction I did witness, was my wife’s first trip to the range and limp wristing and had a failure to feed. Showed he what she did wrong and it never happened again. There’s a reason they are one of, if not the highest selling handgun.

I'm a long time S&W MP 2.0 guy who became Glock curious. I opted for the 17 Gen 5. Yes, I thought it looked a little boring, but I absolutely agree with Chadd in regard to the reliability. The Glock eats every ammo I put through it with zero jams or misfires. The same can be said about my S&W MP 2.0. The only thing I don't like about Glocks are their tiny, sharp, takedown pins. I'm a big fan of takedown levers. I laughed when Chadd made the Sig comment. I recently purchased a p229 Legion. It's the prettiest gun I own, but I've had countless failures. I thought perhaps I may have been limp wristing it so I booked a session with an instructor and he had the same problem and suggested that I return it. I even upgraded to Sig's ammo and still had the problem. I returned it to Sig, so we'll see what happens.

I bought an sig P229 legion RX model years back. Sold it shortly after due to failure to feed. Sig said I was limp wristing it but I’m sure I wasn’t. The Romeo zero sucked ass too, battery door and the battery comes flying off at the range under recoil. I sold it for $1100, bought it for $1600. Been regretting it but reading your comment now I don’t miss the frustration of a high dollar weapon failing. Some other reviewers also had failures with it. Maybe after its break in period it should be good but it was just a pretty gun.

@@GookInaTree Update: As noted, I purchased Sig ammo and still had the same problem, so I returned it to Sig. Since the repair I have not had any problems but the experience soured me on the firearm and I just don't take it to the range as much as my other firearms. S&W remains my favorite company. I have six products from them and they check all the boxes for me. In my early collection years I sampled various competitive brands and S&W was always my clear favorite. Sadly, I no longer trust firearm product reviews. My suspicion is many are paid spokesmen and women. What troubled me most about my p229 Legion experience was that the Sig representative told me that I needed top of the line ammo for my firearm to function efficiently. He used the "you wouldn't put cheap gas in a Ferrari analogy." Well the most important box I want to check with a firearm is that it goes bang when I pull the trigger. I don't want to be in an emergency situation and have to worry about whether I loaded the 'good' ammo. I probably won't sell it anytime soon but it just sits in the safe while I have fun with my S&W and other models.

A great way to improve the mag change is to get a heavier than stock aluminum base plate. I run a 19 with Tyrant Designs +5 on OEM mags. The added weight helps an empty mag drop free. 19 with the +5 on OEM = 20rd mags. It is really nice way to go. I am not sure what is out there for the 19x because of the nub at the bottom of the grip but the 45 can take the Tyrant Designs +5 making them 22rd mags.

I’m not a Special Forces Operator but have done my share of competitive shooting…Glock’s are excellent for their quality and the 19X (with its better sights, magazines, and water cups) is the best of the bunch. If I had only one firearm to bet my life on, I would still lean toward the HK USP. Tried and true. It has been tested by everyone and their brother and thirty plus years later it is a tank. And for me, I am much more accurate on target with each version (9mm, .40, and 45ACP). And as awesome as Glocks are, there are so many competitors making “better versions “ of the “Perfect Pistol”. One doesn’t seem to have that with the USP; it is that good!! The Steyr M9 A1 or A2 is also excellent and if they had better aftermarket support, I do think that they are a legitimate rival to Glock.

I've been shooting glocks for 26 years. I've owned many. I agree, the 19X is the best yet and would be the pistol I grabbed first. Two things I don't like however are the little "nub" on the front bottom of the grip and the lanyard loop. I removed both. When I looked at how the lanyard loop is retained, it did not inspire confidence. After removing the lanyard loop it left a neat little hole in the bottom of the grip that I would much rather use to attach a lanyard. I used a dremel and fine sand paper to remove the front nub. The reason I removed it is, you can't insert a 17 gen5 mag. The original gen5s had that cut out (that everyone hated) at the bottom front of the grip. The gen5 mag base plates extend out the front further than normal glock mags making them incompatible with the factory 19X. Mag cross compatibility is one of the things that makes glock great! I have no idea why they put that little nub at the bottom of the grip. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear it! Good shooting at 25!

When the gun grabbers talk about banning a "weapon of war", that's what I like to tell them. Military weapons are chosen because they're reliable, durable, and accurate. That's all they need. Bolt action 308 rifles are civilian deer rifles and military sniper rifles for those reasons. The AR/M4 platform are civilian & military for the same reasons. Handguns & shotguns as well.
