@robertisham5279 Жыл бұрын
@@linhlinhhoang1770 The French were the ones who started the war by trying to continue their occupation when they should've left Vietnam then we Americans prolonged it. The so called communists simply wanted to be left alone. It was essentially an Asian civil war for independence after decades of colonialism. It wasn't a battle for control of the Free World. What are you telling me about the North and South Vietnamese for? The Viet Cong were essentially S. Vietnamese conducting a guerilla war in S. Vietnam. Then it evolved into a "proxy" war. Also Vietnam didn't need us to stop communism; they could've done it themselves. And I can’t help wondering how different Vietnam would be right now if America under Truman had done the morally correct thing! Again, Vietnam didn't have to be communist. It could've been independent and democratic without a war. If we had helped them become independent right after WW2 then the whole Vietnam war would've been avoided. You see, at the end of WWII Ho Chi Minh came to Truman and asked for his support in seeking Vietnamese independence from the French, and Truman basically brushed him off to support the French in their occupation! And it’s not like Ho Chi Minh just played Truman one visit and then went to Moscow! No, he really respected America and in fact he modeled the Vietnamese declaration of independence directly on the American one, and he was willing to have Vietnam under a democratic not communist government if we agreed to cooperate with him, and so he sent Truman numerous letters, which Truman chose to ignore in favor of supporting the French! Ok, France was our friend and all who backed our bid for independence, I get that, but France was wrong on this! And we as a self-proclaimed champion of freedom and justice were morally obligated to support the Vietnamese in their quest for independence and freedom! But it gets worse than all that. We turned our backs on the morally correct until Ho Chi Minh got support from the soviets! Then we decided to get involved on the premise that if South Vietnam fell to communism, then all of southeast Asia would follow! But as you can see, after we left and all of Vietnam became communist, that did not happen! So basically 58,000 Americans and several million Vietnamese died for nothing! To me that makes it the worst war! And I can’t help wondering how different Vietnam would be right now if America under Truman had done the morally correct thing! Also, many South Vietnamese felt they would have fought the war themselves without U.S. interference. Now I'm no fan of communism but it's none of our business whether Vietnam is communist or not. Besides, the South Vietnamese felt that they could fight the war themselves without American interference. All they needed was supplies and moral support, nothing more. As one former South Vietnamese officer stated, " We fought for our country with our best,” Vo said. “We didn’t need the Americans to do our job for us. We didn’t need the American GIs to come and fight for us. We needed money, supplies and international support.” And here's my source. www.mercurynews.com/2017/09/29/veterans-angry-disappointed-following-pbs-vietnam-war-documentary/ So yes we did invade their country. First the French. Then they tried to invade their country again and then we tried to invade their country and the Vietnamese were simply defending them.

@@tedmccarron You have to know your history. Before the Vietnam War started, Ho Chi Minh went to the US to seek help from them to gain independence from the French, however, France was one of the US's closest allies and refused. That's why Vietnam back then was desperate for independence and went to the USSR for help instead. It is also saying the same thing as the US shaking hands with the UK even though they used to fight against each other. It's 2020, we have to learn to let go of the past and look for a better future. Take North Korea and the US as another example, they're starting to develop friendly relationship as well.

@@tomygun196 I do know my history. I was a history major at Northern Illinois University and was in a history honors fraternity before I got my bachelor degree there. Ho Chi Minh did not turn toward the Soviet Union for help because the US refused to help him, you have it backwards. The US refused to help him because he was a long-time communist already. Ho Chi Minh went to the Soviet Union and Red China for help because they were his natural allies. He helped found the French Communist Party way back in 1919, right after World War 1 ended, decades before World War II and the Vietnam War. He was a big fan of Stalin and Mao and he wanted to make Vietnam into a totalitarian communist state just like they did. The man was a monster.

tedmccarron you act like our country has no history of making friends with countries that are of rival political doctrines, that’s what we do. He didn't defend America. ALL 2.7 million Vietnam veterans were chumps and pawns of your Government and the military/industrial complex. The war was essentially an Asian civil war for independence from decades of colonialism. YOU didn't belong there. It wasn't your fight. That man was an invader and aggressor in someone else's country. It was clowns like him that kept an American disaster going for 10 years...yet you blame the politicians and unsupportive American public for everything. Too bad all of you didn't have the brains and the courage to be real patriots and stand up to your Government when it was wrong. That's called real patriotism. It was people like myself that helped to hasten the end of that disaster and ultimately save American lives. @@martinc2944 Howell if you're going to go there then what about punji stakes, inhumane booby traps and countless other horrible weapons used by the Communists during the war? If the Communists had not started this aggressive War we never would have needed to use agent orange or Napalm, see how that works? Don't attack countries and you won't be attacked yourselves.

Awww, he's so cute. What a brave man! What a disaster, so many lives lost for the interests of a few people in a dark tower somewhere :(. My unfathomable gratitude for all the brave souls affected by this conflict.

All the casualties from wars don't always die on the battlefield. Some are just left behind and forgotten. Thankfully the Seals finally took care of this guy.

Great on all of those men for never forgetting the man who helped them and found their cause noble. If not for the cause, then at least for their lives. He must have truly cared for each and every one of them.
