War is an awful and ironic thing. My Dad fought in Vietnam and came home pretty shook up. He refused to ever say a single bad word about the Vietnamese which I thought was so ironic because he was in a big fight during the Tet and saw some awful things. I think that his attitude showed tremendous character. After he retired, we lived in a small upper midwest town and some Vietnamese immigrants moved in behind us. My Dad not only allowed me to play at their house, he encouraged it. I can't even begin to imagine the horrors he saw when he was fighting and I am still in awe of his ability to not allow hate to overtake his heart.

Americans show the good and the bad of what they do. I watched the Vietnam War many times live on TV, as it was the only televised war and families in the United States could see their children fighting in the jungle of Vietnam. That's why I admire the Americans-just or unjust war they show. The same does not happen with Russia, which has entered into so many wars and has never shown, nor does it today, show its people the wars its military entered, or if it does, it only shows the positive side, knowing that what communists enter is never to liberate a people. . . There's American democracy. Vietnamese people love Americans regardless of whether there was a war in between, the same cannot be said about Russians being adored. That's why good always wins over evil.

Sad that many men lost their lives among those years, but happy that there is peace now. In my eighth month in Vietnam, I embraced the Vietnamese people. For the first eight months I was on the DMZ in Quang Tri Province and had little to no contact with the civilian population. I requested a transfer to a unit in Quang Nam Provence south of Da Nang, where we had a great deal of contact with the villages and peasants. I tried very hard not to harm them. I became completely disillusioned with the war once I was in close contact with ordinary men, women, and children in Vietnam. Up to that time, I was very respectful of PAVN soldiers, but, they were soldiers like me, and it was their duty and my duty to kill.

I know it would be a small chance, but just wonder if you met my mother in-law while you were in DaNang

I'm Vietnamese. You spared the lives of civilians best you could. I think your conscience is clear, and we hold no grudges against you. I'm sorry for how you were treated in your country.

Time really does heal. Enough time passes and old hostilities that at the time were full of hatred, bitterness and anger are all gone and replaced with forgiveness, understanding and kindness. I absolutely love when old enemies come together and embrace. Maybe someday i too will do the same to anyone i currently harbor hostile feelings for.

Vietnam war was hell. Mines, gas, napalm, being burned alive. It's scary to think the day you're living might be your last. It's wonderful that they can be at peace especially when they had fallen fellows.

Out of all the wars that the US has been through, I think this one would be the hardest to forgive.

+MrHow2fail I said the hardest to forgive is the war in the middle east because look at the effects that war has on americans today

CityKids But the Middle Eastern attacked US on 11/9 event. Vietnam did no harm to US, the Vietnam War was so unfair to Vietnamese

For the Vietnamese to forgive or the American as personally I think that it's the Vietnamese who would have a hard time to forgive as more Vietnamese people died than the American

What a great video. It simply illustrates how regular people are just that... regular and the same. The people fighting were not the problem.

What struck me was what he said at the end 'that wasn't me that did that'. It Was you, and that's what we have to understand about human nature we are capable of doing monstrous things in certain circumstances. We are good and evil
