War is an awful and ironic thing. My Dad fought in Vietnam and came home pretty shook up. He refused to ever say a single bad word about the Vietnamese which I thought was so ironic because he was in a big fight during the Tet and saw some awful things. I think that his attitude showed tremendous character. After he retired, we lived in a small upper midwest town and some Vietnamese immigrants moved in behind us. My Dad not only allowed me to play at their house, he encouraged it. I can't even begin to imagine the horrors he saw when he was fighting and I am still in awe of his ability to not allow hate to overtake his heart.

Americans show the good and the bad of what they do. I watched the Vietnam War many times live on TV, as it was the only televised war and families in the United States could see their children fighting in the jungle of Vietnam. That's why I admire the Americans-just or unjust war they show. The same does not happen with Russia, which has entered into so many wars and has never shown, nor does it today, show its people the wars its military entered, or if it does, it only shows the positive side, knowing that what communists enter is never to liberate a people. . . There's American democracy. Vietnamese people love Americans regardless of whether there was a war in between, the same cannot be said about Russians being adored. That's why good always wins over evil.

At least these former NVA soldiers are letting go of the past and are getting along well with their former enemies, and becoming friends and pals with them, unlike those South Vietnamese veterans they are still stuck in the past and still have that hate within them that they don't want their kids to ever visit Vietnam because they still see them as the enemy. This video had just restored my faith in humanity.

Imagine what they each were thinking back In Vietnam. I bet never in a million years could they picture themselves 40 something years later apologizing eye to eye and shaking hands. Sad that many men lost their lives among those years, but happy that there is peace now. Even though the war was pointless, we still have to respect those men who died on the battlefield for serving when called upon, and gave their life for us. If you actually think how much each person had to go through back then, it hurts to.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum With crumps and lice and lack of rum, He put a bullet through his brain. No one spoke of him again. These men, both sides, were the same ones when young who had the "let's kill 'em" attitudes and the big egos. Look at them now, full of regret only finding comfort in relying on another man's forgiveness. Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks war is fun or that it's the only way to prove oneself. Otherwise, live with unforgettable mistakes.

The same barbarians that killed thousands of Americans, used women and children as human shields, and committed unspeakable of atrocities against civilians on a daily basis. The ones we didn't kill were chased into Syria and founded ISIS...which as of now has been exterminated. You can't make peace with dead terrorists which is actually good news for you. When I went to Vietnam, I was shocked, I actually felt guilty (even though I'm team Ali). There is so much evidence of what we did to them but they were the nicest people. When you to the jungle you can see why we lost...

One of my favorite quotes is there are no good or bad guys in this world, it's the side you choose. No one in this war was wrong or right. Both thought what they were doing was the right thing

Come to Vietnam, you're welcome - You will see joys, happiness, many funs, friendly smiles, delicious foods, drink some beer with vietnamese "bợm nhậu",... nobody's talking about the past... Like me, Vietnamese people forget nothing (let's leave it behind) but forgive others and ourthemves for all mistakes we made. Take lesson from the past, put it in the back and go further in every days life and the future.

In my eighth month in Vietnam, I embraced the Vietnamese people. For the first eight months I was on the DMZ in Quang Tri Province and had little to no contact with the civilian population. I requested a transfer to a unit in Quang Nam Provence south of Da Nang, where we had a great deal of contact with the villages and peasants. I tried very hard not to harm them. I became completely disillusioned with the war once I was in close contact with ordinary men, women, and children in Vietnam. Up to that time, I was very respectful of PAVN soldiers, but, they were soldiers like me, and it was their duty and my duty to kill.

+John Flagler Thank you so much for sharing that with us. I can't imagine what having that experience must have felt like...all the emotion and inner-conflict that must have stormed inside you. I wish, one day, war will only be known in the history books, and we can ALL just laugh and eat with each other, like the men in this video.

+inoue jerry , so who did you want to win? I am a red blooded american, my father fought North of Saigon in 1968, he had a lot of issues after the war, I don't have an issue with the Vietnamese people, not sure on my feelings anymore about your government, but I am curious as to who you wanted to win, I love my country, and would die for it, but that doesn't mean I necessarily support everything my government does, but I always support my military, our fathers were taking orders and protecting their country, just like our friends and family are today.

Time really does heal. Enough time passes and old hostilities that at the time were full of hatred, bitterness and anger are all gone and replaced with forgiveness, understanding and kindness. I absolutely love when old enemies come together and embrace. Maybe someday i too will do the same to anyone i currently harbor hostile feelings for.

Vietnam war was hell. Mines, gas, napalm, being burned alive. It's scary to think the day you're living might be your last. It's wonderful that they can be at peace especially when they had fallen fellows.
