SERE school is one of those courses you look back on fondly. Until you remember: Falling asleep after climbing a tree in Evasion and being woken up by being pulled out onto the ground, them “breaking” your finger to get the information, 3 days into resistance phase. Admittedly it was just dislocation (because they dont break bones) ,but frack did that hurt. Water boarding, Getting yelled at and smacked in a foreign language, Giving up your intel (after holding it the appropriate amount of time) then continuing to get beaten for a few more days for “more intel.” Also the interrogator called me “my main man,” and that shit made me laugh. So all and all, I give it a B+ I did get an awesome meal after though.

Dude! I saw this movie with my dad and my best friend at that time, for my thirteenth birthday! No, wait. That was Terminator 2, Judgement Day for my thirteenth, and Navy SEALs for my fourteenth, I think. Either way, I remember watching this, then my buddy and I going home and picking through a U.S. Cavalry and Brigade Quartermaster's catalog deciding all of the expensive shit we knew we couldn't afford, but wanted to derive some kind of plan to do it, buy it and make our own special team. He went 82nd, I went 20th SFG and we BOTH hated jumping! I agree that the line, "You don't gotta love it, ya just gotta do it!" got my ass out the door without a fuss just about every time. Thanks for sharing your stories and Act of Valor was a badass movie! So who is right here? He also said they'd be jumping with a boat, while these guys said nothing about it. And he also made a good point that since theyre jumping into water, they gotta be atleast over the horizon (12 nautical miles) and no human can make a dive that long.

Former Army Special Forces, H.A.L.O. detachment. All Spec Ops are all trained the same in Yuma, AZ (my jump Tac was Force Recon and Jump buddy a SEAL based on weight). On a jump we stack heavy (at gate) to lightest. Now, on team this includes ruck weight so your comms (me) and demo are often heavy lead (unless you have a team monster way over 200 pounds plus his ruck). The ideal is we jump very close, just like that scene, and heavier fall faster to seperate until we hit terminal velocity and fall at the same rate but, already seperate. We only have a 500 foot window to pull at depending on pre determined pull altitude (H.A.H.O or H.A.L.O) based on DZ. All jump commands on O2 are hand signals so the talking is for movies. At the course, unlike static line, you pack your own bag at school, but on the teams the chutes are done by H.A.L.O. riggers (we actually had one in our class). For the record that daybreak jump is about the coolest experience anyone can have!

Sheens character gets his buddy killed because he couldn't keep his cool, yet he's still around? In the final chase scene we learn that one of the SEALs doesn't know how to operate a Stinger? I talked to a custom knifemaker who supplied "some" actual SEALs with his knives back around when this movie came out. He was a friend of another well known actor in the movie, who stated that Sheen was a baby who needed all the attention and constantly annoyed his colleagues. The one fantastic thing about this movie is: Bill Paxton as "God" :)

The hardest thing I went through in the USAF was dealing with a man hating bull dk squadron First Sgt (title, not rank) in basic at Lackland. Some guys in other branches I met lovingly called it daycare, but compared to what these SEAL guys went through it was closer to being at home getting hugs from your mother.

USS Greeneville was fitted with something called ASDS, or advanced SEAL delivery system. It was basically SDV before SDV existed. The thing was massive, loud, and kept us from going very fast. One caught fire and they decided to Decom the other, and SDV/DDS was created for the SSGN's cuz they didn't want SSN's doing it anymore.

I love seeing these guys. These 2 are the most unintimidating people ever but are always the most dangerous men in the room. I never study the big tough guys (like Jacko lol) when scanning. its guys like this that get my attention. It's also these men and men who are confident in their skills that are the most meek and down to earth men you can meet.

They don't "usually" break stuff during the camp slappy phase. Except when I went through, they inadvertantly fractured a guys neck in a stress position. This guy was an older guard member and was told he had to go due to his DC guard job. Made it through everything and then the second to last day during the slappy phase.... Instructor inadvertently fractured the guys vertebrae at the C4. Guys shoulders went numb and he had a pain.

Interesting note: In the "Navy Seals" clip when the team jumped together out of the back of the C130, it was mentioned that this would not occur, yet Jocko said the exact opposite in his "react" to this same scene and gave a reason for why it was accurate. 🤔
