12:20 Fun fact. British traded so much spices that it they became so affordable for British people that even lower class citizens(Not the lowest ones living in absolute poverty, duh) could afford it and were using them.Then nobility decided they need to be different from those "lowly peasants" and stopped using spices. Lower class people saw this and decided to copy what nobility was doing because stupid trends were always a thing even without tiktok and now all british food is bland

@CinesterCharlie Жыл бұрын

@twylanaythiasАй бұрын
There were basically five rations used during WWII - A, B, C, K, and D: ~ A and B were the really good ones but were bulky and spoiled quickly (A was mostly fresh and B was mostly canned). Took a fair amount of prep work, hence, they were only really available at a base camp. ~ C was kinda like TV dinners that didn't need refrigeration and included an accessory packet (toilet paper, a couple of smokes and matches, maybe a tiny motel-sized bar of soap, etc). Not good, but not horrible, but also not a lot of food so were mainly for support staff. ~ K was the main ration for combat troops, and roughly the OG MRE. A two-pound kit with three meals - a canned entre (scrambled eggs with diced ham; SPAM; beef stew; etc), a pair of biscuits, and a milk tablet each. Pretty lousy fare but edible, zero prep work, and packed something like 3800 calories. ~ D rations were the emergency backup. Basically the toughest, worst-tasting energy bars you could ever imagine; even if they did *look* like giant candy bars. If a fire was available, most guys preferred to crush it up to make a hot chocolate malt from it - didn't improve the taste, but it was far easier to drink than to eat.

Atlanits is one of the best Disney movies of all time right up there along side treasure planet and they were both seen as failures to Disney. I feel like it has a lot of similarities to what happened when europeans came over here to the americas and started taking everything they could from the natives not caring if they were destroying their way of life only being incetivized by greed for power and money. And of course there were people among those who did truly integrate into native cultures like people are fairly certain happened in Roanoke and the story reflects that too. Like it's definitely not solely a story of native american history but it has a lot of broad similarities and growing up knowing that my grandpa's grandpa was a tribal elder it felt like a special movie to me, it felt like a positive portrayal of native cultures rather than just talking about them as savages which so much media has done

The reason that british food is seen as, well, shit, is because everyone else piles spice on their food. That kills your tastebuds and makes british food (which really isnt bad, I'm british, it's actually really good) not taste as good. That and we try to make the animals taste as good as possible BEFORE they are slaughtered, meaning we don't need endless amounts of spices and herbs to cook our food. Not to say I don't like spicy food (I quite like Mexican, although it's probably not 100% authentic mexican), but I think people fetishise spice to a ridiculous degree to where spicyness is valued over flavourful spice. Also americans talking shit about anyone else's food is hilarious. I think wonder bread was exported to Ireland in the last few years and was deemed a cake to the ludicrous amount of sugar in it. Last little thing as well, as long as your baked beans aren't ridiculously sugary, beans on toast really isn't that bad. It's a cheap, relatively nutritious meal, especially if you add sausages, bacon and some cheese into the saucepan that you are cooking the beans in.
