I was there that day when we blew up the Iranian oil platforms, Operation Nimble Archer. I was an SM2 onboard USS Thach (FFG-43), we served as control ship for that bomardment operation. i remember WH Standley coming over the horizon with two white birds on your forward missile launcher, I knew this was for real that day! My most awesome day in 20 years of active duty. Glad to know we served together for one day! Lance Schoenbaum SMC(SW/AW) USN Retired 1983-2004.

I served on a couple of DLG's back in the early 70's as a RD and OS. Went through a hurricane off the east coast in the same waters as the movie Perfect Storm, and then a North Atlantic storm in 71. I hated steaming with aircraft carriers regardless of the mail. As an RD/OS CIC was a cluster F the whole time we were in their battle groups, and "everything" was overpriced...

Thanks for the story shipmate. I remember being congratulated when I was frocked to 3rd Class PO. I jokingly told my buddy, feels more like I’ve been Frucked😂 Witnessed one of those TJ bar fights. My buddy and I took our dates and headed for the door😂 Was not going to TJ jail.
