The difference between the Iraqis and Afghans is that they had no means to unite. Imagine the Ummah united. Then we will see who the cowards are. Afghanistan has been fighting invaders for a very long time. Iraq was destabilised and destroyed over a very long period.

I just do not understand why the government thinks it’s good to give soldiers these sorts of drugs. Soft guys?

That piece where he says “I thought I can just quit, I don’t have to do this, I can finish my time out elsewhere……but then that thought goes away & I was like I’ve got to do this, I’ve got to finish this.” Truer words have never went through so many guys’ thoughts.

Young military men should never get married. young men should never get married until they've established themselves in society. Women and children just hold you back.

Ive had three buddies who ended up serving in the Marines. By the time they started got shipped to Boot Camp they were 18 and we had already lost a handful of friends to violen e at home. When they ended oddly all three ended up retiring within the service. They retired just this year. They said they never got sad bc before they served we had already exoerinced a world of violence. I believe this is who the military needs. Just give them discipline and theyll serve until their last dying breath. God willing they make it home like Alvarez, Manuel and Saul. I thank them everyday! They get sad, but from what they say not suicidal sad bc they were used to it before they witnessed KIA's. They were already hardened rom a very young age. That shes going through it too hit home. My grandfather said that exact same thing! Word for word!. He says i can have PTSD thats okay, but "do i want to give it to my wife". God forbid my gma and gpa decided to end it she woukd take those feelings with her for the rest of her life effectively giving her PTSD. He served in the Vietnam War he says Hill 875 was the most traumatic event hed ever gone through.. i looked up Hill 875 and a guy named Dominick Montiglio who was actually mafia related explained it, sloshing through blood on the hill, having to piece together humans like franksenstein. Having to put peoples body parts in literal Heftybags and shipping those off. Sounds very traumatic. Having to identify people by bodypart tattoos "ok this is Dominicks left arm bc this is his tattoo". He didnt want to give her PTSD with his actions and thats what helped him become aware of certain actions he was making.

I’ve watched this 4 times all the way through. Hearing a man that has dealt with so many of the same struggles as me, yet continues so show up for himself. I work with at risk youth in the drug and alcohol field and have used Mr.Dedes story to help so many youth. Thank you Aubrey for being the best raw version of yourself. R.E.A.L S.H.I.T

Welcome Home marine and thank you for telling your story. It helps me understand a small portion of my nephew's experience in that battle. If it's one and the same your Company 1st Sgt at the time was last name Z. My nephew at the time was either acting platoon sgt or a section leader in 2/6 CATT call sign Wild Turkey. He doesn't talk about his combat deployments. God Bless you and yours William.
