I miss the old leotrix :(

This might be an unpopular opinion for all Leotrix fans, but I actually like the 140/UK Dubstep approach he has going on. It feels more refined, and I can see him improving as an artist with his newer releases (Retro Grade EP, DIY EP, and this EP). Ikagi, Bubble Over and others were probably my favorites from this EP. I understand a lot of his fans know him more for his Riddim Dubstep approach, but I find the 140 a lot more welcoming. But to each their own.

LEOTRIX BAD MAN CHOON
@jaspergray803Ай бұрын
This honestly just feels like he dumped a bunch of random shit that didn’t make the cut for the album he’s been working on. There’s no overall consistency or theme with this release. Gotta agree with the comments too that his mixdowns can be iffy at times but his sound design and sense of aesthetics are always top notch which is why he’s my favorite artist of all time.

I agree but don't think it's a bad thing. Leotrix is really talented and although this EP may not be his best its still top notch sounds

I think the one thing that’s tying all of these songs together it is the overall “color pallet” and mixdowns.

@@insertbrandaccountnamehere3436 I think you hit the nail on the head. Ethan's style is super distinct; no one else sounds like him even when they try to copy him.

The ideas throughout the EP are stellar, but mixdown's holding me back real hard :(

Thought it was just the video's compression or something, but yeah kinda disappointing

That’s what’s sad with his music! He’s hella talented, but his mixdowns makes you wanna listen to one track, once, and forget about it!

Im a noobie when it comes to production terms. What's a mixdown? Explain to me like im five

@TheMusicWarioАй бұрын
@@TheGabrielPT @SagarPatel-cy1dv I'm not a producer, so I can't explain it that well either, but I'll try. In a good mixdown every sound sounds clear, with pretty equal volumes throughout. So no frequencies clash. While in a bad mixdown, sound frequencies clash or overpower other sounds. One of the most usual ways you'll hear it is when a bass lowers the volume of other sounds (though this might be used as an aesthetic trick, like Leotrix did on 'Scrolls') or comes accross "muddy" (not clear sounding). A good negative example of a mixdown is MARAUDA's newest EP, where almost all of the tracks were extremely quiet and sounds were muddy as hell. While this Leotrix EP isn't as much of a trainwreck as that EP was, this still features some fairly muddy sounds and volume lowering due to sounds clashing For me personally since I don't know anything about producing or actually mixing, to understand mixing I just listened to other people say what was bad mixing and then tried personally comparing those certain charasteristics that were deemed "bad" into songs I was listening to. Essentially I just trained my ear to hear it.

For me this EP is just too strange Some melodies and off drops feel super odd and listening to some of these tracks made me feel almost uneasy I see how this can be interesting to others, i definitely see the potential but I think I’m just not the intended audience Ikigai and Last Laugh were actually pretty enjoyable though
