Joachim Hamann was born on 18 May 1913 in Kiel, then part of the German Empire. The Second World War started on 1 September 1939 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. During the invasion, Hamann served in the Luftwaffe, the German Air Force.
Shortly after the invasion, Joachim Hamann arrived in Lithuania as a member of the Einsatzkommando 3, a subunit of Einsatzgruppe A, which operated as part of the Nazi mobile death squads. These mobile killing squads were tasked with the systematic murder of Jews, Romani people, and other groups deemed undesirable by the Nazi regime. To enhance the efficiency of these operations, Hamann was assigned to create a mobile killing unit, which would subsequently be named after him: Rollkommando Hamann.
Hamann initially recruited eight members from his Einsatzkommando. The unit had no fixed structure but primarily consisted of Hamann, his deputy Helmut Rauca, and an additional 50 to 58 Lithuanians from the auxiliary police forces, as well as anti-Semitic and anti-Soviet local policemen who referred to themselves as 'partisans.' The unit was reassembled for ad-hoc operations in various rural communities, and its primary mission was the extermination of the Jewish population in Lithuania." One of the most heinous massacres Hamann and his men participated in occurred in the district of Utena, located in northeastern Lithuania. Before the war, the district had around 115,000 residents, with more than 10,000 living in the town of Utena itself, including 3,000 to 4,000 Jews. After German forces occupied Utena on 26 June 1941, the systematic persecution of the Jewish population began. Jews were subjected to humiliating forced labor, including dangerous tasks such as searching for mines, some of which exploded and resulted in severe injuries or fatalities. On two separate occasions, on 31 July and 7 August 1941, the Jews of Utena were taken to the Rašės Forest, about three kilometers from the town.During two mass executions, 827 people were shot dead.

Thank you for this upload. There are not many videos about the Holocaust in Lithuania and this one is really a masterpiece. The way you match footage and photos with the narration gives your production so much authenticity. Thank you for all your hard work, we really appreciate it.

The Einsatzgruppen were so bad they had an entirely separate trial for them. As you can imagine almost all of them were executed. I've noticed deniers always go after the camps but don't have a lot to say about the Einsatzgruppen. I imagine someone denies they did anything wrong but the mass graves say otherwise.

Apparently Joachim Hamann felt himself obliged to act like his notorious biblical namesake Haman. It is good to know that at the final end the fate of Joachim Hanann was indentical as the fate of the biblical Haman.

There needs to be a lot more on the topic of the Holocaust in Lithuania. I think I suggested in a previous video that World History cover the story of Antanas Gudelis. Gudelis was the subject of a 2000 SBS Australia news story, which has been posted on KZbin through Journeyman Pictures’ channel. I am from the USA, and I remember watching that clip and I just could not believe how horribly Lithuanian citizens treated their Jewish population during Operation Barbarossa and in the aftermath. It’s really a sad story, no justice was brought to him by authorities, he was able to live as a free Australian citizen!!!

Most atheists reading this wonder how any justice can exist if God does not exist. The answer is we don't know the answer. The "bet" placed by all people who commit horrible sins is the same: "Since there is no God, I can do whatever I want, and it won't make any difference." For them, the best result is simply no consciousness after death. OK. Many people who have experienced NDE's say that they: "Have seen Hell and that it exists." Of course, that can be an hallucination and mean nothing. Most atheists are "ordinary" people without many sins to burden them. But these people (who believed in Darwin and that some human species were less than animals), committed horrible sins. The bottom line is that it is still a gamble. They will not find out until after they die. If there IS a God and Hell does exist, they will face punishment for eternity. Worse than unimaginable. To most of us, (including atheists) the gamble is not worth it. Not believing in God is one thing. Hanging thousands of sins on your soul is quite another. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)

HISTORICALLY the fertile ground in which NAZISM was incubated was not purely based on the belief that the gov was inept ...what was to follow included two NB factors : 1. A very real threat of Bolchivic takeover in Germany (which is further reason why Hitler invaded Russia - Operation Barbarossa) and Secondly ...Jewish business enterprises thriving while the rest of Germany reeled in the wake of the great depression. The population remonstrated that they were exploited by the Jews (which gave rise to the National movement and, tragically, to the "final solution" ..humiliation and extermination of the Jews.) My comments are NOT political and unbiased based purely on the historical narrative of the time

I guess you have to do it your self. Not, that it is not worth knowing about African History, it' is just a "little harder" to research and to show, especially if you wanted it Afrocentric. In my understanding Afrocentric means the documentary has to be done primarily by Africans, not people from the African diaspora (I'm not a fan of the term diaspora in this context, but anyway). And I'm quite certain the short docs here are done by people from the global north.
