Nazi officer, who hanged 99 French men, burned alive for his crimes - Helmut Kämpfe

Helmut Kämpfe, the son of a printer, was born on the 31 July 1909 in Jena then part of the German Empire. He trained to be a typographer like his father but after Adolf Hitler took power in 1933, he became a Lieutenant in the German Army.
One year earlier at the Lausanne Conference of 1932, Germany, Britain, and France had agreed to the formal suspension of reparations payments imposed on the defeated countries after World War I. Thus, when Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany in January 1933, the financial provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, which imposed harsh penalties on Germans, had already been revised. Hitler was determined to overturn the remaining military and territorial provisions of the treaty and include ethnic Germans in the Reich as a step toward the creation of a German empire in Europe.

The Czechs were stabbed in the back by cowards. Their well-equipped army would have put up a fight that would have given the Nazi a massive bloody nose that just might have had Hitler think twice about invading Poland.

I don't think so. The Czech air force was almost nonexistent, and although they may have matched up well in armor with their 35/38(t) tanks, the Stuka's and 110's would've made short work of them.

While the destruction of Oradour Sur Glane was pure evil, I haven't seen any evidence that Helmut Kämpfe himself was a sadistic murder.

I have thé same feeling. Thé SSs for sure were globally as a military unit, criminal, but individually it's an other matter . Generally in France nobody establishes a strict and clear relationship between thé village terrible and atrocious massacre and thé inhuman death of Kampfe. It's related usually this way : major Kampfe was shot down exécutéd by thé Résistance and : some says that two german soldiers were burned alive in a car ... Regarding thé women and thé children burned alive in thé church it's clearly said thé Germans spent time drawing long threads throughout thé church to spécial Big boxes located at its centre probable containing explosives. They used to do this in Biélorussia against villages populations .

@@deadby15 no that IS not possible AT all as there were testimonies by thé hundredths of survivors, SSs, people from other villages remnants, Vichy authorities etc ... This division had already slaughtered innocent civilians by thé hundredths if not by thé thousends in thé USSR. Thé point hère IS : was Kampfe as an individual a monster? it doesn't seem to have been thé case though the SS collectively refered to criminal régime

The Normandy invasion was the backdrop to the massacre at the French village of Oradour-sur-Glane... A communist branch of the French resistance foolishly decided to kidnap and horrifically execute a Waffen SS Major and several of his underlings. They were part of a Waffen SS Unit heading to Normandy. The resistance burnt SS Major Helmut Kampfe and several of his men alive in an ambulance for the show of a crowd. When the burnt ambulance was found near the village, the angry Waffen SS Division took revenge on 10 June 1044. The village lost 643 citizens. The communist resistance callously felt no remorse for their irresponsible disregard of the likely possibility that such a deed would lead to retribution against innocent citizens.... After the village was destroyed, the Waffen SS division traveled the 420 km to engage the Allies at Normandy. Many of the SS unit perished at Normandy.

Following the German army into Austria were a detachment that went straight to the location of Austrian gold and foreign reserves. The same happened in Czechoslovakia. Hitler had spent so much money and with the Jews already removed German banks, in 1936, stopped buying government bonds seeing them as worthless. The same happened to the national banks in every nation Hitler occupied. Yugoslavia was a exceptions as it's reserves had been transported through Greece and loaded onto Royal Navy ships. Eventually ending up in North America for protection.

Fake news. By all accounts, Helmut Kämpfe was a career Waffen SS officer, NOT personally associated with sadism or war crimes. When you put provocative words in a title, you need to substantiate the allegation. Reprisals against random civilians is a war crime. Civilians using arms against uniformed combatants is also a capital offense crime. Civilians attempting to block or delay a Waffen SS division's movement to the frontlines was ALWAYS going to end badly for the civilians. AFTER Tulle & Oradour, the Resistance decide the cost of resistance was not worth the benefit--NOT before--officially ceasing it's attempts at impeding Das Reich. I think there may have been tears shed for Helmut Kämpfe; the reaction to his EXTREMELY SADISTIC murder would suggest so.

This story gives me always a Darwin Awards sentiment although I feel pity for the innocent victims of the massacre. I don't think that there is any occupying force in the world which wouldn't retaliate for burning their comrades on a public square in front of an audience. If you do something brutal like this then you need to make sure that they can't retaliate, right? There is a park in Amsterdam with a memorial of people who were shoot while celebrating the german defeat next to some german soldiers with machine guns almost at the end of the war. My first thought reading this was: Wow, a memorial for idiots.
