Just to be clear, the US Army has a field manual that instructs how to build a gallows and the exact amount of rope to use. Unlike in Britain where executioners have the added duty of taking measurements so as to ascertain the drop needed, The Army field manual dealing with executions by hanging sets out the exact amount of rope to use and the exact instructions as to building ab Atmy Standard gallows. Now sergeant wood had to use the army regulation drop. As to the gallows, the same rules apply though woods would not have done that job. Whichever unit ran the prison would have that work devolve to them. Any deviation from the regulation sizes would be a violation of the UCMJ.

It sounds to me, as though Kittel was primarily a beureocrat. Sure, he might have signed things that were thrust in front of him, but that's what beurocrats are meant to do. Refusing to sign would of surely meant the death penalty If Hitler had never come along, he would have just been a pencil pusher for the rest of his life. He doesn't seem any more complicit than Speer, who was sparred the hangmans noose. Theres no "excuse" that a professional hangman could have " made a mistake " and misjudged the drop length of the rope...It was intentional, taking 27 mins for him to be strangled.

The hangman lied about his pre-war credentials and didn't take advice off the British executioner A.Pierrepoint.

Why are you concerned about Kittel? Maybe spare a thought for the millions of victims of the regime and its wars?

The hangman, John C Woods, was a diagnosed psychopath. He carried out numerous hangings before and after Nuremberg, with similar results. He was basically a serial killer, who just happened to be authorized by law to bind, torture, and kill. He tortured and killed dozens, and he enjoyed every minute of it. It's troubling to think what kind of serial killer he could have become in the private sector after acquiring a taste for it in the army. Fortunately, we never found out. He died in 1950 at the age of 39, while attempting to repair a set of lights at a military base. The electric chair had largely replaced the hangman's noose by that point, and ironically, he died by electrocution.

'War criminals' to some, heroes to others. I suggest you do the research.
@the_morningstar40323 ай бұрын
Soooo the einsatzgruppen were fucking heroes?? Sure they were heroes to Lucifer. I do heavy research and amongst the nazis the only heroes there were may have been from the luftwaffe and some from the Wehrmacht. Other than that the only ppl these demons could be heroes to would be neo-nazis. This comment shows me that you’re a hateful person and have evil heroes and I’ll pray for you cause a life lived off of hate ain’t quite living Find peace!

being an antisemite as Speer may have been does not make him a murderer. he saw an avenue to fulfill his dreams of being a great architect and leaving a legacy of building great structures lasting many years. whether he knew what was going on at death camps or not is not relevant. many people may have known something was amiss at these camps, but would you hang everyone how knew something but was not involved in atrocities? facts are relevant not hearsay.

He could've and should've left. He had the resources and the opportunity to do so. I've always thought Speer's books were decent reads and historically valuable, but I got to say I'm even more skeptical about his remorse and his accounts after the new evidence came out.

Yeah great now why don't you have ANY videos about German history besides the Nazis? It's really annoying. I'm so interested to learn more about German history, German royalty etc. but all your videos are about Nazi Germany. That's like only talking about slavery when talking about British or American history. It's important, yes, but it's getting old.
