I use a lot of vinegar. I use it instead of fabric softener in the last rinse in the washing machine. It softens clothes and gets out detergent from your clothes. I also use it in my potato salad. Everyone says i make the best potato salad ever. I mix it in mainaise and mustard with spices before it put it all together. It really tastes great. Vinegar cleans out my nice cherry tea kettle. Looks like when i bought. Thanks for all the tips. Nice to see how everyone uses it.😊

It's really easy if you use THIRTY PERCENT vinegar with the baking soda (definitely wear gloves or you will feel the burn and not in a good way). Apply a paste and cover the pot with plastic wrap for thirty minutes (more is better if you have very dirty pans). Then the goo will come off WAY easier!
@sophiepoppet56739 ай бұрын

If you are cooking on a gas stove, the bottoms of your pots and pans will always get sticky and yucky in no time. I have an induction cooktop now and so I don't have to worry about it any more, but as long as I was still using a gas stove, I'd use some good old laundry detergent (yes, the stuff you wash your clothes with) for getting the gunk off the bottoms of my pots and pans. You can even do the inside but you need to give it all a good rinse afterwards if you don't want your food to smell like lavender ... For really tough cases, you can mix the laundry powder (not the liquid stuff) with some washing soda. This works great, but not having to worry about it any more works even better 😄
@AnimaLibera7 жыл бұрын
Oh, and by the way : these products will get your sink squeaky clean too 😉

The reason the bottoms get dirty like you said, is because if your grates are dirty from previous grease spill over and had not been cleaned, it gets stuck by the hot flame of gas cooking to the bottom of your pots. To avoid this, clean the grates after cooking and do not let it accumalate from day after day, and your pots would not get soiled.

Baking soda neutralizes acids, vinegar is an acid. The one cancels out the properties of the other. You are only using the abrasion properties of the baking soda since it is a solid. Salt on a wet sponge would work as well. Or, vinegar alone but the best thing is Barkeepers friend in its liquid form. Non abrasive, just wash well as it is not food grade.
@NazkitchenfunHD7 жыл бұрын

This pot bottoms look like aluminum. Bartenders Friend package does not say to use on aluminum. BF would probably pit aluminum. My cookware is 46 years old, and is bright and shiny. That is because I make sure that I wash/ scrub away every time I use it and it has never built up.
@jeffstanley45937 жыл бұрын
It is always a good idea to read the warnings on any product to determine any cautions you need to take. I have both the powder and liquid forms of BKF here so I pulled them out to see what it said. There is no warning against use on aluminum on the powder. The liquid does caution you to use a gentle rubbing procedure. The pressure of rubbing would seem to have little to do with pitting but may cause scratches. On a pot bottom I would not be too concerned but certainly not an heirloom piece. So, my packaging specifically mentions use on aluminum and it is OK with caution.
@jeffstanley45936 жыл бұрын
www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/2qz3e7/if_an_acid_and_a_base_are_mixed_do_they_cancel_out/ My logic was based on what I learned in school and such places as above. But, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and did as you suggested. I actually tried it. It was hard for me to find a soiled pan but one in particular has three stains on its bottom that have defied all efforts at cleaning it. I took a sponge and doused it with vinegar and dumped baking soda on it and scrubbed the offensive stain. The sponge a had a coarse side and a sponge side. I used the sponge side and applied at least moderate pressure for about 20-30 seconds. I rinsed the pan and the stain was still there. I then went and got my famed Barkeepers Friend and did the same. It too, failed to remove the stain. Thinking the baking soda was perhaps "old" since it has been sitting in my refrigerator for months, I checked it out. I poured some in a cup and doused it with the vinegar and it foamed. Conclusion, the baking soda is still potent but the mixture of it and vinegar on my aluminum anodized pan was that it did not work. I am not going to use the more aggressive side because it just is not that big a deal. Also, if I cannot scrub the stain off, it is not going to come off on anything anyway. I could not leave well enough alone so I continued experimenting. Just in case you said that the anodizing was the cause of the problem I took a solid aluminum French Chef Omelette pan and poured baking soda on it let It sit of one minute and rinsed it off and dried it. There was a stain on the bottom and there was no reaction. I then poured vinegar in to the pan and let sit, no reaction during the minute sitting. I then poured baking soda back on it and drenched the same sponge with vinegar and scrubbed as before. NO visible sign of the stain being removed. All this set me to thinking that if you can brush your teeth with baking soda it must low to no abrasive quality so how could it scrub a stain off? You are correct that I should have tried it first but sometimes logic is enough. Like logically the earth is round or at least not flat. If it works for you and the lady who made the video, great! It did not work on two separate pans here.

to clean your burner grates you just put them in a bag with ammonia and let it sit overnight then you literately wipe it off, i wonder if you can do the same thing with a pan? ... it would be a lot less scubbing (ya im that lazy) ... you would just need a bigger bag to stick it in ...
@-AnyWho6 жыл бұрын
if it works on burner grates then i dont see why it wouldn't work, just try not to breath in the ammonia fumes in directly because straight ammonia is very strong ...
@regitmail6 жыл бұрын
Of course, Jane, becasue ammonia is a water solution of ammonia gas. This solution is very basic (creates hydroxide in the water), and DISSOLVES the aluminum. So if you don't mind your aluminum pans being slowly dissolved, go for it. They will be nicely cleaned and the aluminum oxide layer will reform immediately after rinsing.

You can use oven cleaner instead of engine degreaser. Or you can even buy sodium hydroxide (lye) pellets (usually in the plumbing section for clearing clogged drains). Careful, though, becasue when added to water, an extreme exotherm occurs and will cause an eruption of boiling caustic if you add too much sodium hydroxide in one shot to the water .
@dottieferrell15466 жыл бұрын
The outsides of bumpy finish guardian service is my main problem too, but I am rather reluctant to use some caustic cleaners because of the toxic gases the combination might cause. I enjoy reading about the experiences of others.

Try Tefal brand. They have a lot of options with various types of surfaces. Do not buy the cheapest product. Go for a mid-range or higher priced set. For anything you buy that is of decent quality, it is more about how you treat it than anything else. I had a set of Tefal non-stick for 12 years with the skillets used nearly daily, and had ZERO issues, including no scratching and no sticking. Of course, I was careful to never use metal utensils and to limit washing in detergent, opting to wipe out with a paper towel if possible. This was given to my mother-in-law and within 1 year, 3 pans were essentially destroyed due to scratching of the non-stick surface with metal utensils and scrubbing with abrasives. Even the ceramic coating on the outside was ground down from the abrasives she used!

So heres the deal. The vinegar and baking soda is a fun reaction to wacth, but it does absolutley nothing ro remove the residue on the pan. Vinegar is a 3% acetic acid solution. Baking soda, aka sodium bicarbonate, is a weak alkaline salt. When you mix any acid with any alkaline salt, or acid +base, the net result is carbon dioxide gas and water. This is known as a neutralization reaction. The best example of it is in the movie Fight Club, when Brad Pitt poured the lye (-sodium hydroxide, a strong alkaline solution) on Ed Nortons arm, he stopped the burn by pouring vinegar on it. Neutralized. So while i appreciate the making of this video, the actual way you're cleaning your pots is with a steel wool scrubber or an abrasive sponge like scotch brite and a hell of a lot of elbow grease
