If nothing else this game will be visually spectacular, except for those Elves, they have a totally different aesthetic and feel compared to what we’ve seen. Look at the armour of the main character, the Knight, his armour is stylised but it’s realistic, it’s grounded, nothing’s oversized and it’s not too over the top. The elves are totally different, their armour is shiny and smooth, their shoulder guards are huge, they look far more high fantasy then the Knight.
@Klosterliv2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is no art direction cohesion. Some bits are lifted 1:1 from Beksinski paintings (like 0:20, 1:47), main character armor is basically just Alva Armor from DS2 that doesn't fit the Beksinski style. The elves look like they were made for another project entirely like they were bought from an asset library (probable). And the gameplay shown looks like a basic implementation of some UE action RPG tutorial. Visually looks cool for sure, especially from what I'd imagine is a very small team, but gluing together bits from non-original concepts to impress doesn't bode well for writing or gameplay either I'd say. Well, I hope I'm wrong.

@Gakusangi2 жыл бұрын
@@level9drow856 I'm sick of Souls games just not breaking the mold enough. I mean the official ones. As much as I love Elden Ring and am very happy that it's blown up in popularity I was very disappointed to find that it was more or less the same game again only with an open world. Now, sure, I shouldn't have really expected much more, but with how they'd brought on new creative talent to assist them, how they were trying a new design approach with the open world and how it was being marketed as a new IP that stand separate from Dark Souls, I was hoping they'd try more new things. As is stands, we got a jump button and a horse (with double-jump). In Sekiro we had a jump button, a grappling hook, ledge hanging and the ability to swim. So the world traversal took a step back by comparison. On top of that we have no factions/covenants, there's no major improvements to NPC interactions or quest lines (they're just as sparse and obscure as ever) and the world is yet another dead, decaying mess in the aftermath of an apocalypse that we play an undead/undying clean-up guy in. That main narrative there is the thing I'm probably the most sick of at this point. When will we get to play a character, traversing and a changing the world while it's in its prime? When will we get bustling towns and a more expansive RPG interactions with the people and the world? We probably won't, and ER has kinda convinced me of that. Miyazaki has a method by which he handles world design and development and he's stuck to it for pretty much all of the games to date. It seems to be their tried and true strategy and I concerned that I'll burn out on it before they're ever done making these things, which is a real shame. THAT, is why I expressed excitement at seeing more RPG style interactions in the gameplay marketing Nazralath. It's genuinely something fresh with the Souls formula that I kind of wish was in the official Souls releases at this point.

This game has potential. The few in game scenes already don't let me get my hopes up, though. The enemies are all just normal humans. Even the demon lady, who seems pretty important, is just a generic succubus and those dark elves look straight out of WOW. If the scenery is "visions from hell" I'd expect to fight bizarre abominations.

Agreed. There are a lot of bits that look interesting but just as many to keep me only cautiously optomistic

for real. If you're gonna base your world design off of beksinski's work you need to commit

Yep, gonna need some Hellboy Demons in this, the ones from the "bad" movie, not the fan favorite jim henson creatures.

So zdzisław beksiński style and Lovecraft vibe are a match! 0:05 - 0:25 This gives me such a hopeless and cosmic horror feeling I would love a Lovecraftian game which is not foggy, rainy and dark Deserts and the right sunlight can be overwhelming too Omg i just read the description and it DOES say to be inspired on Lovecraft too. This is going to be great!

Looks like these artists already are making their game "as an 80s Dark Fantasy film" ..years before the current ai screenshot craze

Well consider *me* interested, damn. I spent the first minute and a half thinking "This would be an awesome world to explore in a game, it's almost a shame this appears to be an animated short film." Too early to tell how the combat is going to turn out, but this project definitely has strong presentation right off the bat.

There are scenes that seem to not be "pre rendered" though (even though games don't need to pre render this kind of things anymore, it's prob using UE5), you can distinguish gameplay moments by the camera movements and characters animations (though I've only catched fighting scenes).

Beautiful. Planescape Torment is my most beloved video game of all time and I'm really glad that there are still people taking influences from that cult classic out there. I also love that you guys are aiming for narrative depth with this project. Please don't let the PST influences stop at just the aesthetics and don't shy away from delving into the brainy and philosophical story themes as well, I find that the this oppressively dark atmosphere lends itself very well to more ontological and intellectual plots.
@Shimamon272 жыл бұрын
For me, when someone mentions something as big as PST, I prefer to see proof first. It's just really hard to actually do an experience like that right. And PST itself is flawed - The only game to fix the flaw, IS Disco Elysium.

Looking forward to this. Planescape Torment alongside Numenera is my favorite game of all time and I definitely have high hopes considering your inspirations with Planescape. I hope for the best for this project. The only thing I would say I'm a bit iffy about are the elf-like beings here 1:41 because they look kind of out of place in comparison to everything else in terms of art style, but I think it will be good either way. Good luck!

I second this. That scene looks kind of like it were from another franchise, a bit like suddenly jumping from Mortal Shell to World of Warcraft. Don't get me wrong though, this trailer is amazing and I'm aesthetically hooked!

Yeah, they stated very very big words when mentioning Planescape Torment. I personally think Disco Elysium is the only game to "Get it". And even surpass it.
@AzraelSoulHunter2 жыл бұрын
@@Shimamon27 I don't know about surpassing it. I like Disco Elysium, but not THAT much. It's still great, but it didn't hit me in the same way as Torment games.
@Shimamon272 жыл бұрын
@@AzraelSoulHunter The torment games gave me allot, but, Disco Elysium just gave me raw role play. Disco Elysium made a much better portrayal of the type of gameplay that Torment could have not only benefited from, but even wanted to be. We have to admit - The parts that lowered the experience in torment, was anything to do with combat mechanics, and the fact the whole narrative options isn't a real mechanics... The choices in Torment between good/evil were just not good. The optional quests, characters, struggles and overall philosophical concepts were what made torment what it is... But not the mechanics, the mechanics were just bad. Torment is a memorable game due to it's character, interesting art, the thought behind it and overall atmosphere. But the game itself is clunky and can be tedious to go through, and allot of other RPG games of the type (Tyranny) suffer from a similar issue of forcing people to go through mechanics that lower the vibe. Disco Elysium pioneered the correct approach to such a narrative experience, and really made you role play the character, and have a unique flavor of character identity.
@AzraelSoulHunter2 жыл бұрын
@@Shimamon27 But I didn't exactly get into the story itself. I prefer the ones from Torment games. The gameplay I agree, especially in Planescape it was pretty tedious, but I think game mechanics were used at least in Numenera in some pretty interesting ways. One of my favorite missions was the one on the Space ship where you have to get to control center while being on a tour around it. This was a GREAT use of game mechanics in a very fun way.
