Calling the Iron Man suit "medieval armour" is so on point it's not even a joke. So many other worlds in Marvel are centuries or millenia ahead of humanity technologically that even Tony's Nanosuit is still basically platemail. Pym particles, super-soldier seurums, vibranium and adamantium weapons, and combat wizards are all pretty much the equivalent of pike-and-musket soldiers to Thanos. Thor's hammer and axe are basically the only the only actual "weapons" on the entire planet. That's what Thor was getting at in "Avengers" with the whole "higher form of war" thing -- Earth using an infinity stone to make weapons is basically the cosmic equivalent of North Korea's nuclear program.

Then the generals and president have to okay a large-scale mobilization.... because _it's actually illegal to use the US military *inside* the US borders unless there's an invasion!! And usually, invasion come from the OUTSIDE! A lot of US military is stationed outside US borders, too. And contrary to what Hollywood movie writers seem to think, fighterjets and helicopters do _not_ stand around an airfield fully fueled, crammed with ammo, ready for the pilots to hop in and fly away. They have to be fueled up and loaded, vital checklists have to be run, and flight control has to coordinate things. And tanks are even slower to get from A to B. Yes, there is a certain percentage of fighterjets on patrol at any given moment, in case some country suddenly decides to fire nukes... but honestly, if a handful of first reponder fighterjets flies towards Thanos's alien spaceship over Upstate New York and tries to fire missiles at it, the spaceship (which has shields) will simply fire its space-lasers at the jets and obliterate them in the air!

While there may be some vagueness to what Thanos is actually trying to prevent, I think we can pretty definitively say it's got nothing to do with the Celestials, since we see his home world intact at the end of Infinity War, and that wouldn't be the case if it were destroyed by the emergence of a Celestial. In this case, I think the simplest answer is probably the correct one; it's a matter of resources. Thanos does make a few comments to the effect of "there simply wasn't enough to go around" regarding his home world, which tends to suggest they exceeded their carrying capacity, and subsequently destroyed themselves trying to "fix" that, or more likely fighting over what little they had.

@@S_Drake I think we're supposed to presume that his efforts when he was doing it the old fashioned way had good enough results for him to expand the idea to the whole universe. Though there's that whole other problem that comes with eliminating half of all life in that you're eliminating half of all available food (I mean just nuking half the remaining bees would be a fiasco). Sort of ambiguous how that part was supposed to work since I didn't see any trees go all dusty, so maybe even further it only nukes the prime species on a planet, but there must be planets with multiple advanced species so that wouldn't work either. One possibility is that they didn't have advanced enough space travel at the time, given that technically we don't technically know how old MCU Thanos is. Another is that they did, but not enough of it, and/or some of it had already been destroyed by fighting. Alternatively, enough of them weren't onboard with just taking what they needed from other people that it didn't happen. @CJ_14063 күн бұрын
I kinda disagree. Thanos said the stones were "reduced to atoms". So when he destroyed it, there are bits of particles of the stones left. They just can't see it. Compare this to the Avengers yoinking the stones from parallel timelines. They're basically erasing any evidence of its existence. This is equivalent to erasing your handwriting from the page vs ripping the page entirely.
@jacobd19842 күн бұрын
This might be doing the writers job for them, but the way I made sense of this was that the Ancient One's issue was the stones being taken from one point in time and placed in another, because it meant they were fully gone and thus her era would begin to collapse without them to hold things together. Whereas Thanos destroying the stones only means the energy the celestials compacted into single points is now diffused. In other words, still there, just in a different form.
@Profeshinal2 күн бұрын
@@jacobd1984 I think it's a conservation of mass issue. Taking the stones from the past and bringing them to the future means you practically erased a physical object for a few years, going against the law that mass is neither created nor destroyed. And when Thanos destroyed it yes, the actual stones were "destroyed" but not completely because that's just how the universe works.

@phil15002 күн бұрын
the surge genuinely just looks painful, I'm not sure if they feel the actual "power" or anything like that. With thanos in particular, he can handle the pain much easier, so it seems like it surges then cools off rather quickly as he suppresses it or otherwise ignores it more successfully. When they are removed, your body would still have the shock of the pain and if you are actively trying to push past and ignore that pain, it makes sense you wouldn't realize the source is gone immediately.
@tonygoodwinjr9293Күн бұрын

A good fix would have had Thanos scry every bit of information and knowledge that Future Nebula had learned, giving him an almost complete recollection of everything that happened within the original timeline. The original Thanos knew who Stark was, have him obsess over every detail and every person who stood against his future self on that day. That gives extra weight to the line "it was never personal. But what comes next, I will enjoy deeply." And then when Wanda shows up with "You took everything from me!" Thanos can retort with "Not yet I haven't." as a dual meaning. It was his future self that did that, but also she clearly still has something left so he'll take that from her too.

8:25, I like the idea of Thanos figuring out about the TVA and wondering why they don't try to stop him, while they're all just snickering to each other in their offices at the fact that he doesn't realize they don't intervene because he's about to lose for, to them at least, is probably the millionth time, since these events, even if they may sometimes play out with slight variations depending on certain factors (like Loki getting away with the Space Stone when Tony revisits the Battle Of New York) just a part of this universe's timeline. As for the "draw your own conclusions" bit, 9:26, Thanos' rampage actually being against the Celestials could have work if they'd actually tried connecting him with them more in the narrative, because in the films, he's more of a cruel narcissist with sadistic and psychopathic tendencies that mistakes himself as a revolutionary hero with the only path towards saving the universe, unaware of how his more savage impulses are warping his plans into something detrimental for everyone involved. I mostly attribute that more on them barely making it a point to connect the Celestials or the Eternals into the larger narrative (which is an issue various other Marvel projects have after Endgame of everything splintering off into its own corner, to the point of some things being forgotten entirely, like Shang Chi or Moon Knight.

I'd prefer to assume Thanos just has too much of a sense of honor (or grandeur) to fight that way, and wants to win after a grand battle to stroke his ego. Because like you said, it's pretty clear what's happening, reinforcements are arriving through portals. There isn't really time to gather much info beyond that before the fighting starts, because the enemy is arriving directly onto the battlefield. And outside of the Avengers specifically, it's not clear Thanos from 2014 has any particular knowledge of who he might be up against to recognize them on sight and react accordingly. But perhaps more importantly, he doesn't need to order his army to charge straight ahead. He could just have his ship open fire on anyone who comes out of the portals if he wants to be pragmatic about it. If they somehow reroute the shots, then call off firing, but pragmatically it seems like the obvious thing to try.

Because there was nothing to solve and Thanos is a narcissistic idiot. Kang the Conqueror/He Who Remains was from the 31st century, on Earth. meaning Earth does not get destroyed in the Sacred Timeline anyway. And the whole _Eternals_ movie with _its_ huge pile of nonsense came much later than _Endgame._ So the _Eternals_ scriptwriters shoehorning Thanos into that, and fans retroactively trying to pretend Thanos was nobly trying to prevent the Emergence, is as bullcrap as MCU Thanos's excuse about "population control via murder". If he was worried about Celestials, why not just kill the Celestial seed inside the Earth? Not to mention Thanos snapped half of all life in the entire universe (or at least the Milkyway galaxy), on _every_ planet... but planets having Celestial seeds inside them are _rare._ So this was clearly never about Celestials. (In the comics, Thanos was in love with the Goddess of Death, which wasn't Hela but the personification of Death, and wanted to court her by murdering lots of people... which she really hated.) Speaking as an ecologist, don't even get me started how breathtrakingly stupid his actions are in that regard: 1. If Thanos really killed "half of _all_ life in the universe" (instead of just technologically advanced sentient species), from bacteria to redwood trees, he has with a snap _destroyed the natural balance_ and likely collapsed entire ecosystems!! Different species breed at different speeds, have different number of ofspring per mating (or procreate asexually), and have vastly different generation length. Stuff like rats, flies and cockroaches would be able to bounce back within months. While the predators that keep them in check won't. 2. Honestly, if it's solely about overpopulation, on Earth he'd have to "snap" twice at the very minimum... we're at 8 billion and rising. 3. What about species that are already at the verge of extinction, with only a few fertile individuals of breeding age left? (Earth has quite a lot of those, thanks to overhunting, habitat destruction, overfishing, pollution etc caused by us humans. Exhiit A: the Java rhinoceros, with 74 left.) Now cut that genepool in half, plus any baby rhinos whose mothers were dusted also die, and the remaining population collapses. Then 5 years later the "re-snap" brings back the 37 dusted rhinos back to life... but now _they_ no longer suffice to keep a population going. Death. 4. What about sentient species who long ago figured out, that if their infant mortality is basically zero and their lifespan is long due to their advanced medical science and peaceful existence, they should make sure to keep birth and death rate in balance by the simple way of _not having more children than two per couple?!!_ (the statistical replacement number) Snapping them would spell doom for them. Or species like the Sovereign, whose entire population is bred in-vitro and assigned specific tasks, without redundancies... suddenly half the population turned to dust, including half the clone technicians needed to create new babies? Good job, Thanos! /sarcasm 5. Thanos has invaded planets and murdered half the population long before he collected all the Stones. In fact, just shortly prior to the Snap Thanos must've invaded Xandar, the home of the Nova Corps, and slaughtered them, because when he waylays the spaceship Thor, Loki, the Hulk etc are on, Thanos already has the purple Power Stone. So effectively he decimated Xandar _twice._ It's even worse for the surviving Asgardians: First Hela slaughered their entire military and large parts of the populace. Then Asgard itself exploded, leaving only a few hundred survivors fleeing on the freighter ship. Then Thanos attacked that ship and slaughtered 50% of them and sent the survivors of that culling off to Earth on the yacht. And _then_ the few Asgardians that made it to Earth... were caught in the Snap. At that point, New Asgard is just, like, two guys, an old woman, and their pet rock.

Love the video, my only issue is I doubt Thanos would know who about the TVA.
@Nomsynho3 күн бұрын
No I don't think he did either but it was just a fun joke with the whole mobius strip inverted and the portal stuff... But who knows? Thanos knows so much and so little, mostly I guess it depends if the person who wrote him wants him to have that knowledge or not

@Nomsynho Honestly you making that joke made me realize that I guess the prime timeline requires at least a handful auxiliary timelines? Seems obvious why their system broke lmao
@lastchance62092 күн бұрын
The TVA didn't intervene because they protect the sacred timeline, where this time travel by the Avengers and Thanos did happen.

Endgame was more of a goodbye to every loved one and the homage to the fans. Which can be a little bit boring at times if you didn't care for some character.

Consider also that, from this Thanos's perspective, this is one very, very wild day. He wakes up knowing the location of exactly one stone, then learns about the time heist, then immediately flies his army into the future for a battle that lasts about an hour against a huge army that he's never even dealt with before, and then crumbles to dust, all his plans laid to ruin. All of this from his perspective happens over the course of a few hours. I can only imagine that, as he sat there waiting to turn to dust, his last thought was "Well, I sure didn't expect *this* when I woke up this morning."

My only guess for the TVA is that it takes place in an alternate multiverse because why wouldn't that be a thing

I still can't get over the fact that they made us watch the heroes we grew up with die so that they can later just call them back
@heck31432 күн бұрын
The new MCU phases really just showed me how little the franchise meant to Disney. For us it was our childhoods. For them it was their cash cow.
@bernaspah2 күн бұрын
@heck3143 basically that. All the emotions derived from me watching them disappear automatically were removed when they show up after. Made me say goodbye to my childhood heroes for nothing.

This should be called "I retell end game with a deadpan tone for the one millionth time."
@seriyooow310Күн бұрын
I feel like Thanos should've let off a confused "What the fuck" at the end before he turns to dust. Like that ending to Swiss Army Man when Daniel Radcliffe's corpse farted and propulsed his carcass into the sunset, and the girl, rightfully confused, let off a "What the fuck"
