I play against players that use that pick & roll/pop faithfully. Like that'll run it from almost half court to get a running start. it's almost unstoppable and if I do slow it down they'll just reset and re run it until it works it's annoying AF man.

I just started playing 2k19 watching your videos is making me a lot beter. I play a lot of madden for $ on players lounge, thought I could play 2k for $ too cause I went 12-0 with the warriors in freshman league. Well on players lounge you can't use the warriors and it's on hall of fame which plays way different. I got smoked lol

But this doesn’t help for myteam. You can’t go under because your opponent’s guards have hof limitless and 99 3point. I have a lot of problems defendig the pick and roll

Hey Sam, I was wondering if you knew anything about the screen icon being the opposite of what it's supposed to be. When the screener is going to screen on the left side, the icon doesn't match where the screener is going so I never know which way the my screener is going to screen.

I feel like I’ve heard you say before that you can throw an alley oop from a lead pass (like a katana cut or full receiver control), is that possible? And if so what’s the controls for that? I find a lot of times I want to manually control a cutter and throw an oop but I haven’t been able to figure it out. Watching your vids makes me a way better player. Thanks for all you do!

SamPham, how come you don't use ICE defense for the pick and roll? The best defensive teams in the NBA use ICE.

I think part of the problem is that NBA teams use ICE mainly as a defense for side P&R where they can use the sideline as an extra defender. But in 2k unfortunately they don't give the user the option in the settings to employ ICE only for side P&R, so you have to use it for high P&R at the top of the key as well. And while a few NBA teams will use ICE for the middle P&R to force the ball-handler to his weak hand, I think generally it's thought to give up too much space in the middle for ball handlers who are adept with both hands.

Do you have any recommendations for playing all-time Lakers? I just used all time warriors and lost to them by 30. My friend hit like 6 threes with Magic. Lakers were getting passes in the paint and getting so many steals. I don’t think any defensive settings can stop this team. Side note, I was playing over wifi online and there was a lot of input lag on my end. Still, I'm not sure it should have been this bad.

No Iso plays this year! You need to call for screen just to pass on your defender! It's ok to use team plays most of the time but 2k needs to give a little emphasis on iso plays where we can enjoy dribbling and leaving our on ball defender. I'm winning on HOF mode but i find it unenjoyable because i can't do iso plays. I rely most of the time on pick and roll and free lance for set plays and i will be rewarded for an open court plays by playing good defense.

That’s why it’s important to be in a freelance with good spacing so when the play breaks you can break out in to a pick n roll or some will be open for a pass

Nice video, Sam, but we want to see more Sam-on-Sam crime if you know what I mean. Although I know you must be busy with your upcoming announcement, could you answer a few questions about d in 2k19? 1) How do you stop those super annoying, laser-like lead passes that the CPU sends to their big under the basket after I've made a basket and my defense is just setting up. When the CPU brings the ball up, it looks like my pg drops to the baseline for some reason while my big stands obliviously at the free throw line as the CPU's big runs right past him to wait for the pass under the basket. Do I have to take control of my big after the inbound because I like to play on-ball with my pg as they're bringing the ball up? Also backdoor CPU lead passes under the basket in general. It seems really hard to guard against if I'm playing on-ball which I like to do. I've tried "tighten the corners" setting, but that's not helping much. 2) Have you tried Czar's suggestion for a stronger contest, you flick the right stick up and let go instead of just holding the right stick up as your opponent is shooting? It's in the list of defensive controller moves. 3) Have you experimented with Ice defense of the p&r? I love to run the p&r (when I'm not running one of your money plays), and I know that the CPU's most challenging defense of the p&r for me seems to be when they Ice me. Thought I might try using it myself. 4) Won't "under and catch hedge" get burned by good off-the-dribble 3 point shooters like Harden, Dragic, and Bogdanovic. 5) What's the best d, against the CPU's favorite play of setting up a screen at the three point line for a Harden, Dragic or Bogdanovic when they still have a live dribble. They take one or two dribbles as I try to fight through or under the screen and they have a wide open 3. Thanks and sorry for the essay, Ese.

Sum Solution In MyCareer it seems like you get stuck to the guy who boxes you out. I just can't get off of him. It's very aggravating. I even try to move back but I still feel stuck. I've gotta be missing something I should be doing to get around him or just back up off of him. Is that your experience too?

@Sum Solution I'm having this problem with my playmaking shot creator PG! lol I guess it's a universal problem. The other PG boxes me out well outside of the paint and I'm stuck to him like he's got crazy glue on his back! Unfortunately that means I can't take off running to get a good position for an open shot. Then sometimes I try to box out and I get "successful box out" a lot with slightly better strength & box out ratings but I can't box out guys with a strength & box out rating 20 points lower than me. Lots of inconsistencies in this game.

I played an entire season as a 6'8" shooting guard (defending primary, shot creator secondary), and I got one offensive rebound the entire season -- lol. I would get totally boxed out every single offensive play all season long. They never missed a box out, even scrubs boxed me out like they were Karl Malone going after an unsupervised minor -- sorry, couldn't resist. Like others have said, when you get boxed out, you stick to the opponent's back like you're glued to him. Actually, I was surprised I got that one rebound.

This is the worst 2k I have played in the last 10 years. The mechanics make absolutely no sense, whatsoever. It’s incredibly slow, unlike any basketball I’ve ever watched. The players do not move in the right direction or do what you’re telling them to do on the sticks. There is NOO rhythm or flow to the game and offense and it’s extremely glitchy. There’s legit not a single positive thing I have to say about this game over last years, aside for the updated rosters.
