Watching this video, I realized that I'm in gear 2 the majority of my games, but I have a terrible habit of pursuing drivers while holding L2 and that's what gets me beat most times.

yes it is...it forces you to actually play and pay more attention... if you do that, you'll do well, if you make mistakes, the cpu can make a fool out of you, but if you're good enough, you can still shut it down. The only time it's annoying is on MyCareer when you know you win or can come back, the coach takes you out and either puts you back in when you're fucked and lose the lead or when the game is over.. that's it.. even situations where the cpu had the momentum in a close game, ive been like, "oh im going to lose and get cheated", and when i played smart, I still shut em down, even against GSW.. I hated the cpu at first w, but now I appreciate it.. im 10x better than i was

My only problem is dunkers making smothered 3-points 90% of the time, every time I play smart a cpu teammate gets in the way and leaves a path wide open for an all-star to 3pt whilst I’m trying to pass the cpu, another one is when my op teammates playing like 40 overalls and missing their wide open shots like goddamn I’m being destroyed by being matched up with people like Leonard, LeBron and Curry. I’m destroyed by the way they shoot. I stay calm and try all I can but then I miss things like wide-open layups. Sometimes I think 2K needs to fix this in my opinion. The coaches throw you off when they need you and put you on when it’s like 53 - 78. The coaches need common decency.

I agree with most of this except for the part where you say “Hold turbo” if you do this every time when playing On-ball D,your player loses stamina quickly and u will have to sub them.I defend just fine by tapping LT and using the right stick only.

I notice something with the RS contesting though. When you just hold it up its a much softer contest. When you flick the stick up its a hard contest and more effective, though it can possibly put you out of position.

Post defense is all about stick skills this year. Against a shitty post player I'm always anticipating spin drive cheese by point ls towards baseline and hold L2 but against a good player that utilizes fakes well it's all about letting him fake, sticking with him on shimmys and contesting/jumping with a good shot blocker when AND ONLY WHEN he shows you the ball. Absolute defense and no AI assist will help a lot too.

Tried this but I noticed If u have a lockdown 🔒 defender for park u don’t have to always hold turbo, only when u get beat because there lateral quickness is so high .. just by tapping Lt and using turbo sometimes I was fine, I was actually greater than fine... I was disrupting everything 🔥😤

Think of using the shoulder buttons to only get close to who your guarding and from there is mostly moving the left stick wherever there going and being ready to contest. The left and right stick are the keys to defense this year as opposed to 18 where you mostly relied on using the left trigger to cut people off and auto contest.

i jumped directly from 2k16 and i don't get the physics of the players at all. I player already like 20-30 games, and still have issues. They're so heavy, especially in defence. I think defence was my better side in 2k16. Now I got runned around so easy, i feel like I barely control my guy.

Love the channel, but shot contest is broken right now. People are draining 3s and midis all day online. It's because the system registers "wide open" and "lightly contested" even when your arm is going through someone's head. It's disgusting and it needs to be patched.

This year's game lacks certainty in that the shot meter and make % is still very random no matter the quality of the look or the type of shot. I make 3s with my post scoring PF with just about the same % as my SG. How do you overcome having no reward for making correct decisions?

Babolat3216 getting through screens is still somewhat dependent on attributes and badges. Pick dodger should help a lot. Make sure you go into gear 3 to get through the screen and go back to gear 2 make sure you don't over-pursuit.

I know how to defend with the right stick, but at the paint the HOF just scores, any tips? The CPU bumped me at the paint (defense) do you know how they did that? The hof cpu also always make a little side move and than scores easily in the paint

Hey this is my method! Great video though. Very in depth. You made me realize how complicated this method is. Not sure how I picked it up and got to the point where it felt intuitive on 2k17 but I'm glad. Defense is probably what I'm best at because I use L2, R2 and right stick. I think anyone who struggles on defense probably doesn't use L2 and/or right stick up enough. Or as you showed, maybe too much right stick up which really slows lateral movement so you lose your man. I'm guessing that the attribute "lateral quickness" is specifically for using L2? Someone commented on a video that he never increased that unless he needed to for his overall and he never noticed a difference. I'm guessing he never used L2 on defense.
