Illegal gambling by the players is probably rampant in all pro sports. Its so easy for a player to affect a game without it looking obvious. That goes for referees too.

He is not the only one he just got caught or had to be the fall guy. Interesting how he got a lifetime ban for gambling, but there are players in the same league with various domestic issues that the league felt did not need further investigation. Very easy to find out these players, their allegations and they settled or were found guilty. I guess gambling over domestic violence and assault takes priority, just like the NFL

Hear me out here. I agree on it's face it's crazy HOWEVER matchfixing and athletes, coaches, referees, and league/team staff pose an EXISTENTIAL threat to sports in the way some dirtbag getting into trouble with the law doesn't. If Johnny Baskets beats up his partner; absolutely he should be displined harder than the league does now (maybe even have multi-year bans up until lifetime even). That being said, the thing that seperates sports from theatre is the belief that what you're watching isn't pre-scripted (which is why you can't really bet on wrestling lol). If people don't trust that what they're watching is legitimate (because somebody has been found to have fix games) it will destroy the sports league and sport in a way that nothing else can because people won't watch.

What he did wasn't stupid in and of itself; is that homeboy made it so damn obvious by putting that much money lol The leagues made their bed by getting into it with the gambling companies (people like Canadian academic Declan Hill have been sounding the alarm for this for over 15 years)

Gambling addiction is real of course. But betting against yourself and your team and then intentionally playing like trash and exiting early is borderline criminal.
