There's local team rivalries as well. Bears packers, chiefs raiders, chiefs broncos, raiders broncos, pats jets, falcons saints, titans jags. All these rivalries are important to these teams fanbases. Show those types of smaller, but locally important rivalries in the nba

It's complex yet simple reasons why the NBA is struggling with ratings: - The fact that they only typically showcase the same 6-8 teams in a 30 team league on national TV (All of which played on Christmas lol) - Network blackouts so even if you are/could be a fan of your hometown team, you don't see them even on your local stations in certain markets. - The best years of the NBA in terms of All-Time Top 75 players all played in their primes between 1999 (After Bulls Jordan) and 2020 ("Mickey Ring Lakers"), natural drop off in league high-level players today - Less urgency now that you have a play-in which means 20/30 teams have a chance to get in the playoffs at the end of the year, even if they have a losing record. - Pacing of the games today will almost inevitably lead to more blowouts Some folks will blame the players today as the reason, but as a sports fan in general (NFL, MLB, EPL, NCAAF etc) the NBA's league design just doesn't fit with what folks want as much nowadays. I think it starts at the top, not the players chunking 3s.
