At 19 I was aying alot more than 500 at my moms house granted some of that was going to a phone bill, personally I would be saving that money I recieved from my kid to then give it back when they went on their own so that they learn responsability and that money didn't get blown on nonsense.

I think its a culture thing maybe? I wouldnt charge my kids rent when they turn 18 if they want to stay at my house. They can leave and get their own place, but I would not ask for rent for my own children. But everyone has different prespectives and upbringing.

When I was 16 I instantly got a job to help my mom with the bills, that was always my intention so any time she needed money she can take it from my account, I’m pretty cheap and chill so I always had enough money for rent.
