The enigma that is Alex Ovechkin. Currently 6th all time in goals scored and 4th in hits. That is unique in hockey. He's 6'3" 238. An announcer once said there are guys who can skate with him but aren't strong enough to deal with him. The guys who can stand up to him physically can't skate with him.

Ovechkin might be the one player that could break Gretzky's record in goals scored, in case he stays healthy and can score 40+ goals in a season. He is currently only 164 goals behind Gretzky in All-Time scoring.

Years ago Ovi took a shot to the ankle and left the game early with what we feared at the moment was a very serious injury -- had to be helped off the ice. When he was skating at practice the next morning showing no signs of pain, a reporter asked him how he was and he famously replied "I'm okay. Russian machine never breaks"

Ovi is just an enigma, man is 36 years old, drops people with ease on the ice still while being 5th in the league in points and 3rd in goals this season. Man is out here at an age where most players have either retired or fallen off a cliff with production and he’s just chilling in contention for winning his 4th MVP and 10th goal scoring title. Absolute freak of nature.

I love how the on-the-back goal, aka ‘The Goal’, left you speechless. Ovechkin, as of Dec. 21st, 2021, has 751 goals, not including the playoffs. And he would have a lot more goals due to 3 lockouts and the shortages from Covid-19. Probably missed 150 games or more from those canceled seasons. He is the greatest scorer of all-time, man. And he’ll hit you through the boards as well which is rare for a pure goal scorer to be so physical.
