They're not even better at dribbling because the rule changes or lack of enforcement of the rules allows them to do things that would've gotten whistled as travelling in the past. These dudes are taking four step drops like they're QBs and calling themselves ballhandling wizards. They're changing pivot feet. Jordan wouldn't have developed the fadeaway if he could just take a "gather" step, then two steps back AND THEN another two steps to create space for a shot. I'd LOVE to see the NBA truly enforce the rules as they existed in the 90s for just one season so we could all get a look at just how "skilled" these players actually are.

The difference is guys until around 2010 wanted to beat each other. Not to put it all on LeBron, but he pretty much made it happen when he made it cool to join up in your prime. Now they're all friends not just off the court but on it... and it shows. I mean, just look at the difference between LeBron's era and Shaq-Kobe-Duncan-AI-KG-Rasheed-Webber-Dirk-Nash. - Nash and Dirk were literally on the same team and went their separate ways. Became rivals in the same conference. - Shaq and Kobe were on the same team and went their separate ways on a race to compete against each other for titles. - Duncan stayed put in San Antonio. - Kidd went off to the Nets to do his own thing. - Rasheed went from the Blazers, who were rivals to Shaq and Kobe, to joining a good Pistons team that eventually beat Shaq and Kobe. - Webber did his own thing in Sacramento and didn't join another good team until he was all beat up. - Nash didn't join Kobe till they were old - KG stuck with Minnesota from age 19 to age 31 before joining up with Pierce and Allen. He tried to win on his own for 12 years, and he really wanted to beat Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Dirk, etc. Notably, he never joined em. Then look at LeBron and his peers. They all joined each other at one point or another, KD, Steph, Wade, Harden, CP3, PG13, Kawhi, Howard, Russ, Bosh, etc. All of them joined each other in their primes. This really has been the weakest era I can think of. Nobody wanted to get physical because you gotta keep the door open to be friends later if you wanna team up.

100% agreed, but something I wanna point out: KG reluctantly waived his no-trade clause to be traded to the celtics because he wanted to compete with Paul Pierce, not join him. No one was really playing defense it wasn't real competitive we were just out there having fun. There's no doubt in my mind that player's of today's era wouldn't make it in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s and the one's that could make it would struggle big time to get use to the physicality and actually having to play by the rules. I was in the garden watching the Celtics take on the Timber Wolves with Kevin Garnett back around the the year 2000. I'll never forget that game, cause Garnett put up 25 points in just the 4th Quarter and overtime, on his way to a 30+ point triple double (I think he had 38 but it's a 20+ year old memory, don't quote me on that). with 20 rebounds. he was outrageously great and he was just so smooth. His lockdown defense was a sight to behold, man was something special. KG was a special player and 10 times the player Antman is. RE: two way players, you know the defense has gone to shit when Kyrie and Luka look positively lockdown in the WCF because no one on the court is playing anything resembling defense. there was a time in the NBA most of these pampered babies wouldn't even get off the bench because you'd rather have horris grant and his 16 points a night playing 40 minutes of defense on the court... or you'd win an nba championship with Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer and Denis Rodman on the court. 3 of the most elite defensive and at the same time mediocre offensive threats in the league. We were watching back then, but most of us aint watching now, and thats backed up by viewership numbers. I personally haven't watched since 2019, and probably never will again. That 10 year run between 1995-2005 was the best that it got.

i feel one difference with past eras is the ignorance and disrespect for them that we see now. i've been a fan for a quarter of a century and i remember players usually being respectful of their predecessors. it changed with this generation

Kevin Garnett's intensity and competitive fire even after he's been retired from basketball for almost a decade is such a breath of fresh air from the modern-day players who just care about dicking around on the court until they can go to the strip club afterwards and market themselves on social media as celebrities like they're the fucking Kardashians.

The NBA today is unwatchable. I was a huge NBA fan for most of my life, but shut the TV off about 10 years ago.

My goodness! Am I glad that I grew up in the 80s and 90s! Back then you'd never hear players disrespecting any former players and you wouldn't hear players from the 50s,60s, and 70s disrespect any players from the 80s and 90s! And 2000s I might add! I remember when Charles Barkley said that Pete Maravich had told him that he was his favorite player! And when Julius Erving said that Kareem Abdul Jabbar was the greatest player he had ever played against, but his starting 5 were the players that he grew up: Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor! Now, the disrespect is off the charts!

Guys back then were much more competitive and obsessively passionate to win the title. Competition was fierce and players went at each other's throats.

I think the game now is worse. I'd rather see one hard fought bucket than 10 wide open doors where the players aren't even trying to contest the shot. I don't remember which All Star game it was, Jordan was talking about how hard they were going but as they got tired they'd start shooting more 3's. Shooting 3's is LAZY basketball!

Traveling, carrying, flopping, load management, and no defense, sums up this "most skilled" era. The NBA actually peaked in the early to mid 2000s.

This era isn’t superior to any others but the players still have skill, the games just gotten easier and the players are finding ways to exploit it.

Back then we had a code. I’d play my ass off every night on both ends because it was expected of me from my teamates. And I expected the same from them, and from myself. These days everyone only cares about themselves. Not just in the league but outside of it. Probably blame social media for making narcissists of an entire generation, but nobody seems to give a fuck anymore.

Hilarious. I make 50 mil a year but I have a hang nail so I can't play. This had me rolling. Players in the 80s/90s didn't have to flop like the goat, they were slammed to the ground and got up smiled and gave respect to the person they were playing against. It's funny Ant making comments like this after he disappeared from the WC finals. Magic's comments were the best, I don't respond to a guy who's never won a championship.
@ghettoplatinum9695 ай бұрын
Ant man got his butt kicked in the western conference finals because Dallas sent a soft help and recover on ant man and he lacked the "skill" to exploit it. Lol it wasnt even a hard double just 2 guys hovering over him and instead of going quick to exploit it he pounded the ball and hurt his offense. On top of that Minnesota had the superior bigs and the wolves instead of exposing that match ups continued to settle for jump shots and basically bailed out Dallas. Ant man needs to figure that part out first before he starts talking about someone not having skill. Guys like Kobe Jordan Hakeem Shaq Reggie Malone Barkley bird magic etc all had to constantly deal with double teams especially in the playoffs and because they had Superior skill beat the double teams to still be effective and lead their teams in scoring. Players with non skill glass houses shouldn't throw stones is what I'm saying lol

Most players played 70+ games back then, and stars made sure they were there for all 81. That alone proves these players today can't make it back then...

Being allowed to palm and carry the ball with every possession, routinely take 3-5 steps without being called for a travel, and being able to recklessly jump into your defender and get a foul call on every offensive play doesn’t make you “more skilled”…it means you’re allowed to do things that previous eras weren’t and it creates the APPEARANCE that you’re “more skilled”. And true fans of THE GAME of basketball see right through it…that’s why they’re largely not watching anymore.
