As great as this was, could you imagine what it would have been like if Boston beat Miami to face OKC in the finals and then OKC come out on top? Talk about storybook. Think about it. OKC takes its losses in the playoffs: first rounds, semis, WCFs only to then come back and knock off the Mavs (a thorn in Kobe's side and former NBA champs) Kobe's Lakers, which was the team of this past era, then the Spurs (Kobe's top competiton and 4 'now 5' time champs and then take down the Celtics (former champs who beat Kobe and Lebron). It would have been like a new era of basketball had just begun.

The squad we had back then was INSANE. Besides the obvious KD and Westbrook, we had Reggie Jackson, Kendrick Perkins, Thabo Sefalosha, Serge Ibaka, Derek Fisher, Nick Collison, Scott Brooks (although he wasn't the best coach, at this point anything's better than Billy Donovan)...and while we didn't win the Finals, it's so upsetting to think that we didn't even give that squad a chance to improve. Who's to say we wouldn't have gone back to the Finals? We let Harden walk, among others, for some of the scrubs we have now. The 2016 Thunder will not go to the Finals with the way we're playing now. I thought OKC almost came too far, too fast in getting to the Finals in 2012 - I think they were one year ahead of schedule. They weren't ready for the stage in getting beat down by Miami and now just three years later here they are with a new unproven coach, their two superstars at a crossroads, each having suffered a major injury at some point, and an uncertain future. They seem destined to be remembered by history as one of those "almost great" teams that never quite got there.
@Davefromdabend9 жыл бұрын
+walterv01 yeah your right i think if they had 1 more year until 2013 they could have just beat that Miami team
@Vegacentury88549 жыл бұрын
walterlv01 I got faith in Billy Donavon. He can't be worse than Scott Brooks. Brooks had no system for offense but Donavon has a spread pick n roll system that he's going to drill the players with. If OKC stays healthy they can go to the finals with Donavon
@alexdixon12329 жыл бұрын
+walterlv01 Regardless of when they got there, they still lost James Harden the next year so it wasn't like they had any chance of getting better. I think your point is interesting but not really relevant in the scheme of things.
