Our mental healthcare system is dismal, so a couple of these dudes wasn't surprising, and it makes it almost impossible to have a successful career w/o an incident(s) that can get you booted. While addiction is like a demon of your back, it takes over your life, and shreds it, unless you're able to kick it.

Eddie Griffin was so quiet in college. I saw him a few times. He did not seem like the type of person to fight with team mates. His eyes were dead

I'm a huge UNC fan and Ty for the longest time was my favorite player of my lifetime. Watched him come up through Oak Hill, went to his game against OJ Mayo in 2006, and even exchanged a couple MySpace messages with him when I was in high school. Became a Nuggets fan the day he was drafted by them and really enjoyed what he was able to do for them. His steep decline not long after was tough to watch. He was an idol of mine and he tossed so much of his potential away on dangerous and poor decisions. Still upsets me to have seen him unravel like that and hope he eventually gets or got the help he needs. He was such a unique and unbelievably quick talent. Still to this day a top 5 personal favorite that I have ever watched play basketball, at any level.

From experience with my addiction and mental health, this shows that those diseases do not discriminate. People can only help so much. It’s not entirely a person’s fault when they get these diseases, but I personally believe it’s that person’s job to get better as best they can. Your own life depends on it.

We would all love to have just one weeks wages and be so grateful for that but if you have any chance of having the money a basketball player gets and you mess that up then I have no sympathy for any person who had every resource to help themselves then they clearly don't deserve the opportunity they had and they deserve to have it all taken away from them imo.

Any young men watching this or women. If you have the God given talent and work ethic to be an elite athlete. Take this video as a cautionary tale. If this doesn’t work watch the ESPN documentary Unguarded. The story of Chris Herron, please it will put things into perspective.

I work in the city of Alexandria, VA. I was driving to work a couple of months ago and I saw Delonte West walking on Richmond Highway. Definitely heartbreaking for him
