That’s not true at all, you clearly are too young to know who Darryl Dawkins was but he use to smash backboards in the 80’s. After him the NBA decided to construct something much more solid and after that they had absolutely no problem and let me tell you they had big time dunkers back in that era. Then Shaq showed up!! No player before or during his career demolished the backboards besides him so that should tell you everything. This entire video is a compliment to Wilt Chamberlain. There was not a nicer man to play basketball. Wilt Chamberlain played at 300 to 310 lb and 7 ft 2. He had a bench press over 500 pounds according to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He could have shattered every backboard in the league if he wanted to, but he had the good sense to hold back. His fade away jump shot and moves off the glass were an attempt to keep the game going, not to show off and stop the game with an equipment failure.

Jordon jumps over a huge guy from one step past the free throw line, proceeds to fly through the air and dunk with one hand. He then then shatters the backboard raining glass on 4 opponents while he smoothly walks out the way. Every opponent is holding up their hands shielding their eyes and faces from the falling glass.
