San Antonio Spurs forward-center Victor Wembanyama is the recipient of the Wilt Chamberlain Trophy as the 2023-24 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year.
Wembanyama is the first player from France to win the Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Award, which has been presented annually since the 1952-53 season. He is also the third player to earn the honor with the Spurs, joining David Robinson (1989-90) and Tim Duncan (1997-98).
Wembanyama received all 99 first-place votes from a media panel, making him the first unanimous Kia NBA Rookie of the Year since Karl-Anthony Towns in the 2015-16 season.
In the 2023-24 regular season, Wembanyama led all rookies in points, rebounds and blocks per game, in addition to ranking fourth in assists and second in steals per game. He is the second rookie to lead all NBA players in blocks per game in a season, joining Manute Bol (1985-86). Wembanyama and Bol are also the only two rookies to lead the NBA in total blocks in a season since blocks were first recorded in the 1973-74 season.
Wembanyama became the first player to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in fewer than 30 minutes per game in a season. He is also the first player to have at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks and 100 three-pointers made in a season.

Bill Land (Oh Mama calls) is a real OG announcer for the Spurs, 20yrs. This past season likely will be his last. He shared he is battling Myeloma, a rare and incurable blood disease, in November. Give this man respect he deserves, he called some of the most famous calls in NBA history during the Spurs dynasty run. He also is committed to the team, even after breaking his wrist and multiple face lacerations right after a fall, he still didn't miss a call. Bill Land, you're one of the goat announcers.

All the announcers, including those from TNT, were so impressed with Wemby's performances from his rookie season! The best play call I have ever heard, coming from no less than Kevin Harlan, during that Spurs-Bucks showdown at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio! Great talent not seen for a man of his size since Jabbar. I mean, he is better than any other big man I can remember right now... including Chamberlain. His hands, speed and coordination are simply amazing for such a body. However, I fear that he is jumping too much in uncontrolled actions and this poses two problems. One, in such uncontrolled actions, the risk is high that he will fall badly on his ankles, knees and feet. Second problem: now he is 20 years old, he is in the prime of life. From now on, he has to choose his battles better or else his knees and ankles will stop his career before 30. Remember all big men, they break in their knees, ankles and feet. Even not so big men such as Dr J have to retire because of bad knees. If one jumps all the time, the life of knees is shorter. Pau Gasol had to leave because of his broken feet, as well as the Chinese giant and Bol. I can only remember Nowitzki and Jabbar who took care of themselves so well that they manage to have a long career without major injuries. Also, the Jabbar of the last years was no match for the Jabbar of the first years, even though he did not jump and run so much as Wemby now by far. Therefore, in spite of all the hype, I very much fear that this could end sooner rather than later. Victor has to learn to put it down with the minimum effort and the minimum jump, like Jabbar did, without dunking. There's no point in making the big jump when you are alone and nobody threatens you. He might offer a dunk to the public but, one, it's an easy silly dunk, and two, he punishes his knees unnecessarily. So, remember this one, no big jump for nothing or for easy ones and his career will be longer. Also, the better he shoots 3 pointers, the longer his career. Third point, he and his team need to work more on making him the passer number one. If two or three defendants try to stop him, just pass it on for an easy one, do like Djokovic and Marc Gasol, pass it on.
