One of the greatest finals runs in recent history. How they completely dismantled the defending champion Lakers was a work of art. Then to take down James, Wade, Bosh, and the heat. It’s rare to have a team with one superstar make a run like this but it’s happened before. Dallas had one superstar, a tested veteran in Kidd, and a great sidekick in Terry. But the entire team was well rounded. Chandler, butler before he got hurt, Marion, Stevenson, Barea, etc. Dallas had one superstar, but the entire team as a whole were superstars. It takes a team. And Dallas proved that in 2011

I remember this run. This is a good what-if had they kept Tyson Chandler and JJ Barea in the off-season after but that was also the beginning of the salary cap where Dallas had forced to play under the luxury tax, which is one of the big reasons this team had to almost disbanded. Had runs in the playoffs but not the same until the arrival of Luka Doncic.

God, if you love basketball you should LOVE the 2011 Mavs. What a cast of misfits & castoffs coming together to play ultimate team ball and were able to take down Goliath. And I just love the stories. Like Peja. Truly one of the NBA's sweetest shooters but was kind of a role player at that point in his career. But then he gets to have that moment against the Lakers and really helped the Mavs take care of business and get that championship. He deserves that ring. Or Kidd. Coming back to Dallas where his NBA career began. Having been the star of his NBA Finals teams but now taking a step out of the spotlight and just being the on-field general that the Mavs offense needed. And the irony of him returning to Dallas as a pretty solid 3pt shooter is pretty hilarious considering when he got into the NBA he couldn't make anything outside of like 15 feet....but shit, could he pass the ball. Tyson Chandler. His doctor, and also the Pelicans team doctor, advised the team to trade him because he was damaged goods and those knees were done with. But the Mavs took him and he balled the hell out for them. Shawn Marion. Once one of the faces of the NBA but got old and not as dynamic as he used to be. But he still brought that same Matrix hustle & effort on both sides of the court. And that's what Dallas needed....that guy who will do the dirty work, maybe only end up with 8-12 points but his defense, his hustle, resulting in like another dozen points. I could go on and on. JJ Barea, Brendan Haywood, Brian Cardinal, soooo many stories of overcoming the doubters and other challenges. JET was right, that team certainly had their personal stories that brought them to that special moment in time where they were Champions.
@andystarkiller74925 ай бұрын
2011 was a proof that not always the best teams prevail but teams with the most determination, teams who suffered painful losses previous years. Kobe was no longer at his prime unlike in 2008 or 2009. He had begun declining during the 2009-2010 NBA season. You win against Dallas, you still lose against KD or against LBJ (like the 1988-89 LAL who were attempting a Three-Peat).
