I get the Clippers dont have picks but why do u HAVE to have a superstar on your team if you’re not gonna be any good anyways?? Whats the point?? Why is it bad to get rid of all bad contracts or avoid making new ones??? OKC literally had no one. They unload George and get SGA. They tank for a few yrs and let their homegrown picks and cheap signings develop. And now look at them. Why isnt this the model?? Why is it that you have to overpay?? I think the limitations to roster moves has been more effective at dispersing talent than tax penalties. Steve ballmer just built a brand new arena in LA for a second fiddle team simply because he has the ability to do so. He should want a star studded team but he knows the current core is aging and not getting past the second round and probably will be surpassed by younger teams in the next couple of years. Holding onto an aging PG on a max deal just ensures they can’t trade any of their star players, even when they are missing the playoffs in two years
