45+ years later, this is still my most indelible memory of Wimbledon. finals sunday, 9am, the cold open where you just hear the hush of the crowd, then Enberg does an intro, and then this music. it's so cool, the perfect mood setter, where you just know you're going to see something epic. god, i wish ESPN or tennis channel could bring this back. wimbledon never seems quite as special without it.

Prior to 1981 it was a Saturday finish and NBC didn’t start Breakfast at Wimbledon til 1979 for the men. The women were sometime in the 80’s

This older one was the best, with the great trumpet stabs and the octave at the end.

Today it's just another tennis tournament, but back then it was an event. ESPN, does a good job but they really don't capture the majestic of what is called Wimbledon. IMP

This version of the Wimbledon theme was used from 1979-1992!

I don't know but I'm gonna guess it took Bjorn Borg maybe an hour and a half to beat Roscoe Tanner in the final.
@paulsonj724 жыл бұрын
It was actually a five set match where Borg had to come back from a 2 sets-1 deficit to win

@@paulsonj72 I'm a big fan of tennis, but guessed wrong on this one. It was before my time, but worth checking out. The tour is likely finished for this year anyway.

Then why does TVPMM credit Edd Kalehoff as the author?
@byrd596 жыл бұрын
Probably because he wrote the theme for HBO's Wimbledon coverage. Could've been some confusion there.
@timtebowsleftarm53685 жыл бұрын
It does sound like Kalehoff. But I don’t doubt it’s Gault.
@RochesterTVArchive5 жыл бұрын
@@byrd59 Edd has this exact track on a sampler of his from the early 2000s
@deananderson53184 жыл бұрын
@@RochesterTVArchive Could it be that Kalehoff wrote it and Gault performed it?
@RochesterTVArchive4 жыл бұрын
@@deananderson5318 This is definitely Edd's composition. Not sure where the Clark Gault credit comes from.
