Although these NBC ID's and animations should be available on the 'Hullabaloo' set, I isolated, extended and created a fade-to-black on the first two. Otherwise, they'd dissolve into the opening scene of the show. -1965-66, I believe.

Staff announcer Johnny Holliday is also currently the radio voice of University of Maryland sports and the host of the Nats Xtra pre- and postgame show on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).

Frank Peppiatt and John Aylesworth (the two writers for the series) were Canadians who had prolific television production careers in the United States, later creating, writing and producing the long-running (and corny but fun) hickfest Hee Haw. John Aylesworth only left us a few months ago, at age 81.

The entire series was preserved on black and white kinescope film; again, only three half-hour episodes were saved in their original color videotape form. When they were cleaning out their warehouse in Fort Lee, N.J. in 1973, NBC offered a complete set of "HULLABALOO" videotapes to producer Gary Smith, who declined. NBC then "wiped" virtually their entire inventory of the series, to reuse the tape stock. The "NBC Presents" bumper appeared on the kinnies instead of the "Living Color" bumper.

Wow! Mind-blowing factoids, aren't they? Well, as the old proverb goes, "You learn something new every day".

Peppiatt and Aylesworth also created and wrote an unsold sitcom pilot for Jack Chertok {"MY FAVORITE MARTIAN"} concerning a TV producer who finds himself producing a "HULLABALOO"-like teen music show (starring Paul Dooley), which aired on ABC in April 1966 as "THE MAN IN THE SQUARE SUIT".

It's a shame so few of these episodes survived in either kinni's or on videotape. I picked up all three DVDs and they are among my favorites to watch. While I grew up with the show I barely remember many of these in first (and only) run.

OUT IN THE STREETS by the Shangri-Las was the last song played on WINS that day before the switch to all-news.

SONY introduced a home video reel-to-reel recorder in late 1965 for home use, 'iabhonic'- but it cost $995, and it was expensive (and cumbersome) to buy the tapes for it, let alone operating it for most people. I know Johnny Carson owned one for his own personal use...

The "NBC Presents" bumper was used on black & white kinescopes of their taped and "live" network shows at the time {eliminating the original "Living Color" bumper}, primarily for purposes of delayed broadcast on some affiliates. This rare color edition (only three color tapes are known to exist of the series) was originally telecast on September 20, 1965.

The nbc peacock logo and music is burned in my mind. I didn't know how great a time for music that was when it was happening.

Johnny Holliday was the announcer of "Hullabaloo"? Remarkable. He was once the stadium announcer of the Cleveland Browns.

How sad. All that would be historical music footage now showing rare acts and legends before they became big stars. :/

I believe the "kinephoto" disclaimer was discontinued around 1967, 'ino'.

Actually, it was played prior to 8 P.M. on April 18; for the next four hours, WINS had public affairs programming, and signed off for 5.5 hours at midnight; it was at sign-on at 5:30 A.M. on April 19 that the station officially became all-news.

Nice Epiphone Sheraton Lewis Sr. appropriated from one of Paul Revere's Raiders (along with the tri-cornered hat). Gene Autry's Continental Hotel, eh? A few years before Led Zeppelin and others turned it into LA rock 'n' roll debauchery central.
