NBC Network - NBC Saturday Night At The Movies - "KISS Meets The Phantom" - WMAQ-TV (Opening, 1978)

Here's the (mostly complete) opening for the NBC Saturday Night at the Movies presentation of "KISS Meets the Phantom" (A.K.A., "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park) on WMAQ Channel 5. They even did a WMAQ on-screen station ID during it. (the recording missed about the first half of the NBC opening though)
If only the rest of the movie was as moderately entertaining as the opening credits.

It's been forgotten, but this movie was the number 2 rated TV movie of the television season in '78, Shogun was number #1.

When I was twelve years old I begged my parents to take me to a KISS concert when they came to Charlotte N.C. I'm so glad they didn't let me go, I would have had the crap scared out of myself.

I have also heard they are the LOUDEST group out there. You could wear the headphones to block out some of the racket but I'll bet your ears would still ring for a couple of days anyway.

I recorded it from a CBS Late Night airing in either the late 80s or early to late 90s and dubbed it to DVD. Unfortunately, I had to dub it twice at EP speed because I didn't realize that CBS had so many commercials that the DVD wouldn't be long enough at SP speed.

This is a very high quality video compared to bootlegs of the movie online. I don't know why this movie failed to impress and had Hanna Barbera's name in it. Also why the main actor was ex drummer Peter Criss and no mention of Gene Simmons? Maybe was because of the song Beth? Who knows!

***** It looks like, at least in the opening credits, they were billed that way because the band as an ensemble was the film's "star"-no one member took precedence in terms of that billing-, yet because they had to put their names in some kind of order, they went alphabetically (hence Criss, then Frehley, then Simmons, then Stanley).

***** Why are there low quality bootlegs online? This has been released in the digital era! Hell, an ex of mine had this on a DVD from a KISS box set back in 2007. I know, because we did a private screening of it in a community theater.

I liked their music but was never into their act, though I did buy the comic where they poured their own blood into the red dye vat where it was printed.
