I suspect this kinescope was made for a West Coast rebroadcast three hours after the live broadcasts to the East Coast. Many early TV programs only exist because kinescopes of them were made to be fed to California three hours later.

Interesting that back then the news was more fair, less slanted than now. At the same time, a commercial for their sponser looks almost like a news report.

I think the networks should go back to a 15 minute newscast. No filler. Just the important stuff. People don’t have the attention span for 30 minute news anymore.

I don’t think it’s an attention span problem as much as it is the newscasts doing the same stories over and over, plus too much coming up next tags, and too much fluff. I agree the news would be better shorter and more to the point.

Even B/W broadcast is fine so you concentrate on what they are saying as opposed to everything being so flashy. It’s supposed to be the news, not entertainment.

Brief and to the point. The world in 15 minutes. Even shorter than WINS NY famous slogan, "You give us 22 minutes...We'll give you the world".

Two correspondents whose reports appeared in this newscast went on to greater fame. David Brinkley, of course, became co-anchor of NBC's evening newscast in October of 1956. Roy Neal is best remembered for his reporting of the space program for NBC, usually stationed during space shots at Mission Control in Houston.
