My daughter is Dr Nyongo’s patient since she was 4. Now she is 18. Dr. Nyongo is the most gentle, kind and considerate doctor we have met. My daughter has glaucoma since she was 4 and she was afraid of any bright lights so it was a torture for her to go through the vision check. Dr. Nyongo is always patient with her. My daughter loves Dr. Nyongo. She shared the news of which university she would attend with Dr. Nyongo. I was in tears to watch this news. I did not know about any of these humiliations he had gone through all these years. The way he is treated is outrageous.

When my daughter was newly diagnosed with leukemia at age one her (white) doctor's office screwed up several things and I had to find a new pediatrician right away. When I called Dr. Gary Bean's office (on Park Blvd. in Oakland) he answered the phone himself. Dr. Bean provided primary care throughout my daughter's childhood into early adulthood and became a mentor to her. You bet, Dr. Bean is a PROUD BLACK MAN ❤ This interview breaks my heart, we need way MORE Black doctors, not less. May deep and systematic change come swiftly to hospitals.

@user-fc2xk3uv8y I don't know WHAT it is, but I know when it comes up, It allows the ones who might not hate us/ or are not "racist", and who, in a LARGER number and POWER EXPANSION, marginalize us while granting the acknowledged,hella transparent, resultedly LEATHAL Anti-blacks from THEIR group, insulting "reprieves." towards offenses directed at US. So these people are being THEMSELVES. They are from the SAME groups, and they actually operate on a GRADIENT, not stark character. If we can point out the racist ones who in extreme want to see us dead or in severe pain, we can point out the much larger group of the "non-racists", Who in the least, have no issue with unnecessary systemic struggle placed upon black people by the so called "racist" ones of their group.

I know this to be true. I helped a sick Black man get home to Chicago. He fell ill while performing in Oakland many years ago. I was a medical social worker at Sutter Hospital at the time. A white social worker asked me to see this man because his assigned white social worker had not checked on him all morning. That man begged me to get him back home to his family. I went in and organized a flight back to Chicago on Angel Flight with his oxygen and his gratitude! The assigned white social worker was so upset I helped that brother man that she went to my Black female boss. My boss apologized to me and asked me to resign because those old white social workers had her under control! My boss said she wish she could help me but she was close to retirement. I resigned but I learned a lot. racism is alive and well but Im glad I got that brother home to his family. God blessings is my reward! I am no longer a medical social worker but a clinical therapist continuing to help my people!

Talk about delusion, this hospital left me to die. I’m a brown plus size woman and after seeing endless specialists and generalists for three months, they all let me walk ( I was eventually in a wheelchair) around with an infection that almost killed me. I was told my pain was from being overweight, mental and psychological. After being kicked out of the er a second time, I ended up at general hospital SM. The female doctor on night duty ordered a cat scan and located my infection, it took me a year to recover. I could not repair the implications it had on my life and family.

@Shania Van der Halen I’m referring to Medicare for All. I know how that is because I have Medicare and I can get in a doctor in days mere days. Last summer, my nephew, who is 50 years old and his wife moved out to Arizona. Something they been planning on for 10 years. He got a job right away and started working. By November he wasn’t feeling well and he went to the doctor. By the end of November, he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, with two brain tumors. I had to have brain surgery immediately and was flown to the hospital to do that. His insurance is barking at paying for these pills because they are claiming his lung cancer was “pre-existing“. If we had had universal insurance, he would’ve gone to get a new job and still had the same insurance. I thought. In office they took away “pre-existing” illnesses. I do not know if that’s been repealed by someone or what’s going on, all I know is, they’re having trouble getting their extremely high medical bills paid. People in other countries don’t need to have a go-fund-me in order to not lose their homes, when they get sick or injured and have medical bills. There has to be a better way than how we have been doing it. Back in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s you could get a job with really good insurance benefits. It’s not the same way anymore. Many jobs don’t even provide medical insurance today, so how is someone supposed to have insurance if their job doesn’t provide it? Ugh 😩
@kenzie-.-
@kenzie-.- Жыл бұрын
@Shania Van der Halen I think your statement on universal healthcare is anecdotal. Do all countries with universal healthcare have months to see doctors? Even major surgery here is need based which can be months if able. On top of insurance, which can make it take longer for approval.

I have been physically/verbally attacked in addition to being called the "N" word by both staff and patients all while attempting to carry out my job in a professional manner The AVP at my latest contract attempted to denigrate and label me " aggressive" (after speaking with me for all of 2 minutes), and made several "ageism" comments during an important closed door meeting which included ALL of their upper leadership. I had had enough. I politely interrupted her, called out the racist "dog whistle" for what it was, & addressed the "ageism" comments. I politely reminded them that MY company was engaged to address and assist them in fixing their MANY deficiencies to keep them from losing millions in revenue. I politely reminded their upper leadership who were on the video call that any future interactions of this manner will be immediately forwarded to my legal council after notifying state and federal agencies of their multiple areas of regulatory non-compliance along with my recommendations.

I am so sorry this ignorance is still going on, even in the professional world. Recent years seem to have given (( some people)) yhe idea its ok to be rude, cruel, prejudice and ruthless. I am so sorry- and without sounding prejudice myself as a white women I do not ever choose a white physician. I do not feel heard or feel any connection or awareness. For 30 years, Ive avoided white male physician's and when I deviate from that I always regret it as someone with a complex medical existence. I am glad we are able to talk aboit this and hopefully this will be the change to flip this awful, antiquated, ignorant behavior . Awareness, altruistic, benevolence and a commitment to do no harm should be every person's oath- the hyppocratic oath. This really upsets me because my best care has come from non white physician's and my worst care - whiter than white. I am ashamed of my own ancestry on a regular basis because there is no excuse in this day and age. None. If not now when? If not you who? Thank you for making this issue open and highlighted to CREATE CHANGE! I-YOU-US-WE-ALL ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

"The issue runs deeper than we initially thought. Despite facing discrimination due to their skin color, Black medical professionals have been met with robbery and hindrances when attempting to establish hospitals in their own communities. It's clear that we need to address the systemic issues plaguing our neighborhoods before we can effectively address the racism perpetuated by these institutions. While I fully support inclusivity and diversity, it's become evident that we must take matters into our own hands and create our own opportunities, rather than relying on systems that have consistently failed us. By building our own institutions and supporting each other, we can create a more equitable and just future for ourselves and our communities."

Shocked but not surprised. It’s not only his story, there are other 7 involved in the lawsuit as well. Just because you don’t see it or because it doesn’t happen to you it means that it is not going on. Big respected institutions tend to sweep things under the rug. Sad that he had to sue, lawsuits are long an uncomfortable with much victim blaming. But I hope the truth come forth whatever it might be. Most probably it will settle out of court and be hushed.

Hey blk folks,we must ask for blk md's always. Make sure the hospital you go to always get this request and when they can not accommodate your request file a complaint form against the facility. When the board continues to get these complaints they will accommodate you...if not begin to put it on social media and name these institutions and where they are. Start a campaign of dissatisfaction of distrust in their facility. MAKE ALITTLE NOISE AND CONTINUE UNTIL CHANGE IS MADE!!!

Use the stairs because whites are uncomfortable? That sounds over the top, implausible. And what man is going to shy away rather than speak right back at that, especially a doctor, who, if you've ever worked in healthcare you know are very confident. I'm sure he did experience discrimination, but that part sounds a little ridiculous!

Hence: these are the wives, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters of the men who were moved from Miss. and Al. from the 50’ and 60’s. It’s a trickle effect.

The racist always hide behind none racist. Most people who say America can't be racist because Obama became president didn't vote him themself. So what they do is hide behind those who voted him and sa look "we" voted a black president. So just because he became director doesn't mean they went many who were against it

Black Professionals are treated that way in Finance as well. You complaining 😒 and showing your backbone usually results in being laid-off or fired and placed on a Black List why it is often challenging to be re-hired sometimes over the course of several years and when some one checks it out like this issue, the core of these attacks have more to do with race.
